spintowin Posted September 25, 2017 #1 Share Posted September 25, 2017 My 85 year old father has never been on a cruise. Would the 4 day Majesty out of Canaveral be a good first cruise for him? His biggest concern is getting sick from the movement. What speed does this ship/itinerary reach? He also doesn't walk very well. So maybe a scooter? But, the ship is not very large. So maybe not necessary. Any input is appreciated.Thanks.
Clarea Posted September 25, 2017 #2 Share Posted September 25, 2017 Weather/sea conditions, which are not predictable far in advance, are what cause the ship's motion. Majesty would be good because it's small. However, if you think he would enjoy an adult covered pool area, then I'd also look at Rhapsody and Brilliance out of Tampa. These are newer ships, not that much bigger than Majesty, which have an adult Solarium.
dreadpirate3 Posted September 25, 2017 #3 Share Posted September 25, 2017 I love Majesty and have enjoyed a cruise on her recently. I think Majesty or Enchantment out of South Florida would be a great choice for your father's first cruise.
spintowin Posted September 25, 2017 Author #4 Share Posted September 25, 2017 Thanks for the input. His interests are food, casino, and shows. I can picture him sitting on the promenade deck, falling asleep. Does Majesty have a wrap around promenade? I was on Monarch years ago but don't remember. Thanks. It'sRC4ME Posted September 25, 2017 #6 Share Posted September 25, 2017 You are smart to choose a smaller ship. We have elderly relatives who are avid cruisers and both quite mobile. However, when they went with us on Freedom of the Seas they found the ship was just too big and all the walking around tired them out.
Lucy Jane Posted September 25, 2017 #7 Share Posted September 25, 2017 You can rent a scooter to be in your stateroom when you arrive. Sent from my iPad using Forums
SRF Posted September 26, 2017 #8 Share Posted September 26, 2017 My Dad cruised for the first time (not counting time on Navy ships :D ), at 87. He had one of those walkers with wheels and a seat. We cruised on Grandeur and he got around well. And enjoyed himself.
ZoeyVictoria Posted September 26, 2017 #9 Share Posted September 26, 2017 I took my mother on her first cruise at age 82 on the Monarch. She brought a friend and we had adjacent cabins. Both of them absolutely loved it.
