Where to hang out before departing Fort Lauderdale? With luggage

Hi all!

We are going on a weekend cruise out of Miami from 11/10-11/13. We fly in and out of Fort Lauderdale. I’m hoping to get some suggestions where my husband and I can hang out before our flight departs on 11/13 at 4 pm. Cruise ports at 7a.m. So we don’t want to hang out at the airport all morning. I figure we have to get to airport at 2:30 or so. Any suggestions to where we can hang out that may store our luggage for us if we grab lunch/hang on the beach, etc?

Cerne - I posted this in response to the question on the Ask a Cruise Question Board too....

Lots of options:

  • Take a cruise line sponsored excursion which will be publicized a few days before disembarkation. A very popular one is one of the Everglades boat ride and alligator parks. You board a bus, your luggage goes in the bottom of the bus, sightsee, and get delivered to the airport usually around 2 pm.
  • Rent a car for both transportation and luggage storage. Check out www.sunny.org for things to do.
  • The Sun Trolley (www.suntrolley.com) offers a free route from the airport to downtown ("the Airport Link") and return if you are disembarking on a weekend. You can store your luggage at Bags to Go (www.bagstogo.net) in each terminal and then take the Sun Trolley downtown to visit the restaurants, galleries, etc. on Las Olas Blvd, and/or hop a water taxi (www.watertaxi.com) to also see Fort Lauderdale from the water, etc.
  • Day rooms can be had at the Rodeway Inn, the Riverside, and the Hampton Inn Las Olas/Downtown (just search this forum for day rooms Fort Lauderdale or by hotel name).
