Status Match Question

My opinions on status match: Divina 10/14

First, I think it's great that MSC offers this to begin with. I'm Diamond on RCL so I was matched to Black

This was a free cruise through UR comped and I was invited by a friend who was matched to Gold as she was Platinum on Carnival..The offer was for two and we were booked in the Bella category with free drinks in the casino.

Using my Black status:

Priority embarkation was great..We were given an embarkation time of 4:15. We had stayed in FLL the night before and had to check out of the hotel by 11 so we ventured to MIA early. We were on the ship at 11:45. Very nice.

I don't usually check luggage at the port but did so this time and our bags were at he cabin about an hour later.

We had a fruit plate upon arrival

Prosecco and strawberries later that night,,,,Strawberries were the best I've ever had on any cruise

Comp for a specialty restaurant....chose Galaxy....excellent

Tote bag

Spa special

Chocolate ship

Free Photos

Welcome cocktails

and a bunch of stuff that I honestly can't remember....

I'm not really into all that "stuff"

I bought drink vouchers prior and really didn't need to since the casino drinks were free flowing.

I just think it's nice that MSC does this...but I will probably never sail the line again...Too many things I didn't like but i'm glad I went.

Overall, a fun time and I've never been on a "bad" cruise:D

I didn't like the fact that you have to activate your credit card AFTER you board. It was too chaotic with 4500 people and 2 kiosks. It is so much easier to do it before you go. Some were having trouble doing it or cards were declined and they had to go to Guest Services (right near the kiosk) which made the area quite packed.

**Service was inconsistent in all areas

**Dinner was too long...only went twice

**The ship was too big for me. I prefer smaller.

**There were a lot of smokers on this cruise and not enough places to smoke. The outdoor area for smoking wasn't covered for shade so if it was hot, you couldn't sit out to smoke. It was very hot all week. No smoking in the casino was a turn off to a lot of people

**My casino card wasn't registering points on the second day and they couldn't fix it at the casino. I had to wait one hour on line at Guest Services

It was a beautiful ship and there were little things I liked better than other lines such as roomy cabin and glass showers but the things I liked didn't outweigh what I didn't. Again, I had fun meeting people and had lots of laughs:)

I am very excited to be able to use our Disney Platinum status on our 12/23 sailing of MSC Seaside.

We officially got the email that we are Black card.

I think I am most happy with the priority boarding. That is the perk we love best on our DCL cruises. That is going to make all the difference on this big ship sailing out of Miami for the first time.

The cost difference between this MSC Christmas cruise and DCL Christmas cruise for a family four is extraordinary. We did Disney 3 yrs ago for Christmas and spent about 6,000 more than we are spending on MSC Seaside.

Oh a couple of questions for those that sailed on MSC with the Black care status.

- Do we book our specialty restaurant when we get on book or can we do ahead of time?

- With the Welcome aboard drinks - Where do we get those? (We love a drink as soon as we board :-) )

- For the Black card party, when is that usually held? (Disney always did that on the first Sea Day around 11AM)

Does anyone know how many points you need to get the 20% discount on cruises. We are Black Card status now with 4 more future cruises booked with MSC. Or do I not understand how the discounts work? Only get the standard 5% now. TIA

It is nothin to do with your black status but a way of MSC offloading some of their less popular cruises

There is a section in the Voyager's Club area of the MSC web site that gives details of selected cruises with either 5% + 5% (9.75% overall) and 5% + 15% (19.25% overall)

here is an image of the relevant page

It may be possible to phone you regional office and pre-book a day and time for the meals.

But there is no problem waiting until you get on board and book it then.

not sure about the other 2 questions.

Thanks for taking the time to let us know why you were not completely satisfied with your MSC Cruise.

I don't know how many cruises you have been on and really it is not important. I am providing my input to help you and others who may encounter the same concerns.

1. Service was inconsistent in all areas - this may apply to all cruise lines and I am sure I have encountered this, too on other cruise lines.

2.Dinner was too long...only went twice - normally if you dine in the MDR, the evening meal can exceed 2 hours or more depending on the size of your table and server.

3. The ship was too big for me. I prefer smaller. - fully understand this as many people like small ships. I like the big ships and the bigger the better. Examples: Oasis, Allure and Harmony OTS. Much more to do and see. JMHO.

4. There were a lot of smokers on this cruise and not enough places to smoke. - We are not smokers so that would not affect us. However, if you cruise Celebrity or other cruise lines smoking is getting to be a NO NO on their ships. In fact, we were on the NCL Escape and they allow smoking in the Casino and that is on the deck above the Atrium and the smoke goes all over the other decks. So, non smokers complained about the smoke. LOL As for it being HOT all week. I assume you were in the Caribbean where it is HOT.

5. Gambler - We don't gamble so no comment. However, I can understand your comments and dislike.

As for the registering of your Credit Card - We were on the Divina in Feb 2017 and we did not find that to be a problem since you have 48 hours to do so. When we did ours, there was no line and no problems we encountered or saw.

Based on your opinions and dislikes, those things would not be applicable to us. Thus, it would not concern us.

Again, by you posting your concerns and dislikes, it may help others to determine if this ship, cruise line, etc., would be for them or not.

Happy Cruising on your next cruise.

This was cruise #27 for me and yes, we all have different likes and dislikes.

If at the end I can say I had a good time, that's really all that matters and I did so that's good!:)
