My wife and I just recently got a decent sized airfare voucher and wanted to go away to FL for afew days. We quickly realized that spending the first night in Orlando and then doing a 3 day cruise would be cheaper that just staying at a hotel. We are treating the 3day cruise like we are staying at a resort...its going to Nassau so we aren't getting off the ship. Besides the obvious (its short) what are some pros/cons (or tips) from people that have done 3 day sailings before? Just looking to get most out of short time on board :)

Me, never did a 3 day cruise . You're off the ship faster than you get on and it's a party crowd. You ,that's another option . You're going to have fun that's for sure ,and you know it's relaxing on the ship after the crowd leaves. So why not :D

A bunch of us (18) did the 3 day NCL Sky over NYE. Yes, it's a party boat (that one is an open bar ship). But it was fun! I think a ship stay is better than a hotel stay, even if you're going to Nassau. Sad, coming from someone who lived in Nassau as a kid, but if it was the same now as it was when I lived there it would be much better, LOL! If you can roll with the punches, don't sweat the small stuff, and don't mind the party atmosphere - I say go for it. Have fun.

Yeah ive heard it used to be a lot better back in the day. Yeah we aren't huge drinkers but we are going to get the cheers package for the first time and see what happens.

Just got back from a 3 day on Sunday. It was a nice break from reality and we enjoyed it. We only went to the Hasbro show, played cards in the library, and hung out on our balcony for the most part. We went with the 3 day as an "introductory" cruise for DH & DD. I will say I didn't see as many stumbling drunks as I would have expected based on posts here about the 3 day cruises being booze cruises. The 4 day I was on last year was definitely worse in that regard - but that may have been because it was Memorial Day Weekend.

Once. My kids were little (6 & 3) so I didn't have a ton of time, but I badly needed a getaway. A girlfriend & I started pricing out long weekends in August & round trip flights from NY to Miami plus the cruise at the time actually came out to be a similar price or cheaper than driving, hotel, plus paying for food & entertainment so 3 day cruise it was.

It was one of my most fun memories. We had an absolute blast! Now we were 25 & did our share of partying, but nobody was "out of control". It was very short though. We ended up being extended because POM closed due to a hurricane. Instead of debating at 8am, we had a fun day on the ship & got off around 8pm. Carnival paid for a hotel for the night in Miami because we couldn't fly home as planned. I always say without that unplanned extra time, I think we would've been really sad. Too short. But honestly, if that's the time you have, short cruise is better than no cruise!

Our very first cruise was a 3 day. None of our cruises have been longer than 6 days because we combine them with a land vacation. I'm not a drinker and not really a gambler either, but I have a blast. It is fast! No sooner do you get the lay of the ship and the trip is over, but if it's cheaper than a hotel, go for it!

I have a hard time enjoying short cruises. By the time you start to relax, it is time to pack and go home.

However, a cruise is what you make of it. Enjoy the time that you have.

:)

Our airline is SUPER stingy so they make you pay for a carry on....so because of that I'm just taking a backpack and shes doing a small bag that can go under the seat. Well...at least that's what she says :)

Done many, many 3 day cruises with small carryons. Depending on when you go they can be very rowdy or extremely quiet.

I did a 3-day May of 2016 from Miami so my son could spend the day at Atlantis, it was the most affordable option, because I had Southwest miles. I didn't like it at all, a whole different type of folks cruised on that cruise, such as ones that found it acceptable to wear their nightgown to the dining room (not buffet for breakfast). The kids were downright rude, obnoxious, unsupervised brats. I am by no means a cruise snob, and I travel with kids a lot of the time. But I was so done in that short time, I barely left the cabin the last day (which I had never done in the past), and came home and cancelled the next 3-day I had scheduled and lost the deposit.

Yeah I mean you probably went into expecting more of a drinking crowd but that sounds ridiculous

Where do you normally leave out of? We are going Dec 14th...schools wont be out yet so it shouldn't be too bad. Colleges may be though so who knows

Don't want to seem like a Debbie downer but whats the point of a 3 day cruise? They are such a tease. I have a very had rule of nothing less than 5days. I did a 4day last year and it went by so fast I wanted to book another one. Now my option should be taken with a grain of salt, I live in Florida and less than 5miles from port and my vacation never really feels like it has started until i can't see land any more.

My big Con is short cruises are just that SHORT. You never get the time to say I'll miss that activity and do it next time.

I live about 4 hours from Las Vegas. There are millions of people who love a weekend in Vegas, gambling and dining and taking in sights. A 3-day cruise is nothing more or less than a Vegas-like adventure. It's quick and relatively inexpensive. It's not a vacation per se, it's a couple of days out of the house.

We certainly take vacations, a week or more at a time, but those take more leave and money than I may have at the moment.

That's the point of a 3-day cruise.

We got back from a 9 day New England cruise on the Anthem of the Seas last Saturday. THAT was a vacation. We got home, unpacked, and longed for a 3-day booze cruise where we don't get off the ship and have our noses stuck in a book 8 hours out of the day. I booked one yesterday and we leave in 3 weeks.

I get the booze cruise idea but I'm past that point of my life and enjoy the casino and shows 2 much for just a 3 dayer.

We live an hour from Long Beach.

These cruises are our second home/boat/weekend in Vegas all rolled into one. No worry about maintenance or a four hour drive. Instant relaxation. Our biggest decision is where to eat lunch when we’re in port.

Many pax will travel from other places, sail these short cruises and do other things in the Greater LA Area.

Take the Disney Dream Cruise to Nassau for 3 days out of port Canaveral. We love Disney, even without our daughter. They’re such a great experience and really take care of you as an adult. And they’re not booze cruises like some of the other brands three day cruises. They have adults only areas and fabulous shows and dining. Not to be missed for sure.
