DaveOKC Posted November 2, 2017 #1 Share Posted November 2, 2017 We are considering staying at the Marriott Marquis Marina in San Diego the night before our cruise. Has anyone stayed there? How nice is the place (and rooms) and would you stay there again? How about dining options for dinner and breakfast? Thanks
jamesr3939 Posted November 2, 2017 #2 Share Posted November 2, 2017 Nice place, great location and plenty of fantastic places to eat. If you have time the night prior book the walking tour of Gas Lamp called "Brothels, Bites, and Booze" It's a fun way to spend a couple of hours. You are right at the end of Seaport Village and there are several great places to eat. Buster's Beach House is good and the appetizer sampler is more than enough for dinner or lunch for two. Across the street by the Convention Center trolley station is place called "Tin Fish", which is fun for lunch or dinner.
Kartgv Posted November 2, 2017 #3 Share Posted November 2, 2017 It's a very nice hotel, great location, though pricey - make sure you note the obscene parking charge if you'll have a car. If you can manage it, book a harbor view room - great views! There's also a Roy's restaurant right next door - good Hawaiian/Asian influence food. We are on a Marriott employee discount so price is very good, but not able to book view room (will try at check-in.
jamesr3939 Posted November 3, 2017 #5 Share Posted November 3, 2017 Even a higher floor on the city side would have a great view.
DaveOKC Posted November 3, 2017 Author #6 Share Posted November 3, 2017 What is the best way to get to the pier the next morning? I know it is one mile away.
RSF Cruiser Posted November 3, 2017 #7 Share Posted November 3, 2017 Depending on how much luggage you have, there's a trolley station across the street from the hotel, and the stop near the cruise ship terminal is maybe about two blocks away. I'd take Lyft or Uber.
jamesr3939 Posted November 4, 2017 #8 Share Posted November 4, 2017 Trolley would be cumbersome as the station is a little bit of a walk from the hotel and the terminal and deciphering the ticket machine. I would do a taxi or UBER. Check with the hotel they might have a shuttle that would drop you there. Several years ago we were at the Embassy Suites right across from the terminal. But there were ten of us with luggage. I tipped the Bell Captain and the shuttle driver and they took just us about 1/3 mile to the terminal. Splinter Posted November 4, 2017 #9 Share Posted November 4, 2017 Sally's (restaurant) at the Marriott is very good; they have both inside and outside dining right on the marina if you are looking for a more upscale dining experience. Otherwise you are a short walk to many good restaurants in the Gaslamp Quarter. The Fish Market (on the other side of Seaport Village from the hotel, just south of the USS Midway) is also a local favorite, with casual dining downstairs and a more upscale dining area upstairs. For breakfast, you might want to walk over to Cafe 222 (222 Island, about 4 blocks) which has fabulous breakfasts (they only serve breakfast and lunch).
