Uber

Only port city in Florida with Uber issues was Ft Lauderdale. They are long solved; open the app at either FLL airport or Port Everglades and your screen will be wall-to-wall little black car icons.

You will find older references to problems at MIA airport but there was never any denying Uber access, only drivers being cited for operating an unlicensed vehicle for hire after dropping off their passengers. Uber corporate paid the fines for their drivers until eventually getting the county-cronies-on-the-take-from-the-taxi-unions to call off the dogs.

Question: I was told that you cannot use Uber from Port Everglades Cruise Port on you return from cruise back to hotel, true or false ?

Question: If false, can you make arrangements with an Uber driver to pick you up to go to Cruise Port and pick you up on return and transport back to hotel ?

Never used Uber before. but, I am sure I don't want the hassle of hotel shuttle.

Any info will be much appreciated !

Here's a short video on how to use the Uber app on your smart phone: https://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=how+to+use+uber&&view=detail&mid=2902EB42C3124906B1672902EB42C3124906B167&FORM=VRDGAR

When you are ready to leave your hotel (in FLL area or in Miami?) use the app to request a ride -- once a driver accepts your request you will see the driver/vehicle info and an estimate in minutes for how long it will take him to pick you up.

Use the app again post cruise when you have your bags and are clear of customs/immigration and ready to load up. The wait for a driver is usually under 5 min.

Good luck! :)

First off, be sure to have the Uber app on your phone before you travel. Once installed, go into settings and set Location tracking so that it only tracks you will using it (might be iPhone only). Also, enter your credit card info at this point in Payments.

After you get your bags at Port Everglades, you can order your ride. Easy to do, your location should show as the Pickup Point. Tap Confirm Pickup, Uber will display your fare if you entered a location.

One more thing. New riders can get $15 off their first ride with a promo code that you can get from an existing rider. This gets entered into Payments also.

If you need one, use mine: 6y3g9

Anyone can use that code.

About $35 from the MIA airport to the FLL airport -- should be close to that for hotels near FLL or Port Everglades.

Thanks, John.

We will save a lot more than that coming back from Italy. Gives us more leeway for booking flights.

Never used Uber. So you never tip the driver?

Tipping Is always optional and can be done in cash or through the app. After the ride you can rate your driver (up to 5 stars for great service) and add a tip to the fare.
