I agree. It is just not worth the hassle. I don't book unless I can get a past guest rate. You can pretty much do whatever you want with those PG bookings up until final payment. We have gotten multiple price drops, changed categories and changed cabins after changing categories. And, if still not satisfied you can cancel for a full refund of the deposit or switch cruises up until the final payment is due.

 

As for price reductions, we find the categories that we tend to book are sold out long before final payment rolls around, so there is not going to be any OBC. (Aft wraps, Jr. Suites, Spa Suites, Havana Cabana etc.)

Trip insurance can cover issues like this. My wife and I had to cancel our cruise 6 days before because of a medical emergency. Got most of our money back because of the insurance. ALWAYS buy it.
