smoothdancer Posted December 19, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 19, 2017 I am quite interested in purchasing an omega necklace. Right now X-mas sales are pretty good. I cant decide if I should wait while we are in St Thomas or if I would make out better purchasing now. Any thoughts?
awhfy Posted December 19, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 19, 2017 Get your prices from home then price check while in the islands. I’ve always found St Thomas to be excellent jewelry shopping Sent from my iPad using Forums
Rare Keith1010 Posted December 23, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 23, 2017 Just my two cents. Purchase at home and now. You take a lot of risk when purchasing on a cruise. Time is limited. Sometime you are rushed. If there is a defect or something goes wrong after wearing it there is very little recourse but at home these issues are overcome. Just my two cents. Keith[/quote Kieth you are right. I believe many of those purchases are called “vacation mistakes.” I know travelers who have closets full of those. Happy holidays everyone. JanetMarie Posted January 7, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 7, 2018 While we've been to St. Thomas so many, many times, and absolutely love it there, I would purchase stateside. For us, our jeweler has been able to offer us upwards of 40% off pricing at his store. If you work with a jeweler over the years, they'll give you a decent price. We purchased while on a cruise and didn't get the deal we thought. As stated before, you have no recourse if there is a problem.

I was told jewellers in the UK work on up to 300% profit margins and we have obtained some massive discounts by negotiating. I would expect something similar in the US so if you see something you like i would start with an offer of half the price and see what happens. NorthernLite Posted January 22, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 22, 2018 Always know the current cost of gold and figure your starting price based on weight of the necklace in grams. In the Haversight port there is one locally owned jewelry shop called Glittery. They sell everything from locally made sea glass costume type jewelry to most of what you see in the cruise ship magazines in your cabin. Because it is locally owned they are very good about service because a bad review or two here and they would be in serious trouble.
