Raptordash Posted December 26, 2017 #1 Share Posted December 26, 2017 Does Viking allow passengers to have guests on board for a few hour visit and a meal ? My brother and sister-in-law will be on World Cruise on the Sun, and I would love to be able to see the ship (as well as them) Marc
Rare Peregrina651 Posted December 26, 2017 #2 Share Posted December 26, 2017 I would confirm directly with Viking at tellus@vikingcruises.com or ask your in-laws to confirm with guest services on board the ship.
Rare Vineyard View Posted December 26, 2017 #3 Share Posted December 26, 2017 Agree with Peregrina to check directly with Viking.....friends of ours tried to do similar in NY earlier this year and they were not allowed to do so.....but you never know, maybe this time the answer will be a different outcome. A couple of non-passengers have reported being allowed to tour a ship, so it is at least worth the ask.
Lobes1 Posted December 27, 2017 #5 Share Posted December 27, 2017 We were recently on a cruise with another cruise line that stopped in St. Kitts at a pier adjacent to a Viking ship. We went onto the Viking ship, explained that we had reservations on Viking, and asked if we could see the ship, fully expecting them to refuse on security grounds. Much to our surprise, we were given a complete tour of the ship. We were very impressed with the appearance of the like new ship, and we looked forward to our planned Viking cruise. Unfortunately, that experience was another story.
Rare Vineyard View Posted December 27, 2017 #6 Share Posted December 27, 2017 I wonder if the difference was that you were already in a secured area, vs someone from outside that area. I have no clue, but I hope that it works out for OP.
chengkp75 Posted December 27, 2017 #7 Share Posted December 27, 2017 If Viking allows this, it would be treated much like Princess' BVE, where the guests would have to submit ID to Viking corporate in advance to get clearance. This is pretty basic ISPS security protocol. While I am surprised that Viking let someone who simply showed up at the dock onto the ship, the difference is that ISPS typically allows "unannounced visitors" on the ship, at the Captain's discretion, so long as they are escorted by crew at all times. So, an escorted tour of the ship would be different to allowing guests onboard in the "custody" of passengers.
