tenpin Posted January 11, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 11, 2018 Long time since we cruised the Caribbean, but suites did have a slightly higher charge than other cabins. In the 'Med' suites are higher

G.M.T. Posted January 13, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 13, 2018 There are a couple of factors where you are cruising and what ths ships currency is. All ships use the Euro except for Caribbean cruises departing from Miami, South American cruises, Spring transatlantic cruises departing from South America, and Far Eastern cruises in which case it is the US Dollar. What is your departure port? The other being where you booked your cruise, in Germany the service charge is included in the final price, England is mandatory but is paid onboard, USA paid onbord but can be reduced or even completely removed. Even if your ship's currency is US $, you can still pay Euros into your onboard account, but I would recommend you change the currency before boarding as you would get a better exchange rate. For you onboard account, you can either register a credit card or pay in cash (a minimum of € / $ 150, or the full amount you think your account balance you think it will be at the end. You can also use a combination of both.
mef_57 Posted January 13, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 13, 2018 I am Canadian, and wonder if I can pay my carribbean cruise tips in Euros not US $ Though you can various currencies for payment, I would hesitate using Euro in the Caribbean. Last time I was on Costa, everything was in US$ including the casino fees. I would worry that they would convert the Euro to US so you would have 2 currency conversion fees. If you are trying to use up Euros, well, it is one way to do it, but if starting off with Cdn$ - better to go directly to US.
nanwel Posted January 14, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 14, 2018 Thank you! I have a lot of Euro from a cruise 2 yrs ago, and have not converted them to anything yet - maybe my best bet would be to take them to Fort Lauderdale and change them there to US. If you factor in your time in Ft Lauderdale as valuable, then it would be better to just use on ship - as they will be converting Euro for the European cruisers. If I wasn't staying in Ft. L, I wouldn't waste time or energy trying to find a currency bureau. If it isn't your bank at home, I don't find banks all that helpful at times....so wouldn't expect a good conversion rate.
