newbie6 Posted January 12, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 12, 2018 Which excursion would you recommend in Ketchikan? Misty Fjords or Wildlife Safari & Beach Bonfire on Annette Island? We are open to anything and it will be our one and only trip to Alaska. We are 2 in shape 50 year olds and a teen.
6rugrats Posted January 12, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 12, 2018 There's an Alaska forum, going there would be a good place to start your research.
Rare Keith1010 Posted January 12, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 12, 2018 Welcome to Cruise Critic. Grugrats has it right. Please come over to the Alaska Ports Of Call Board and post this there at: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?s=&daysprune=-1&f=55 Also time of the year is important to provide you with solid advice. Please note when you will be there. Keith
capriccio Posted January 12, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 12, 2018 Welcome to cruise critic! On our first cruise to Alaska in 2007 we took a cruise line excursion (11 years later and we don't do many of those anymore; you can get lots of info about independent excursions including seaplanes in Ketchikan on the Alaska board) that included a small seaplane flight over the Misty Fjords, followed by landing on the water and transferring to a boat for the trip back to Ketchikan. Both the incredible scenery and the experience of landing on the water were unforgettable! We've never done the wildlife safari and beach bonfire. The second time (2012) we visited Ketchikan we hiked to the Saxman Totem Park (http://www.alaska.org/detail/saxman-totem-park) and took public transportation back, visited the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center (https://www.alaskacenters.gov/visitors-centers/ketchikan) and walked around downtown Ketchikan. It was very interesting and very inexpensive. Next summer, when we will have our 3 1/2 year old granddaughter with us, we'll do the Discovery Center again and got to the Lumberjack show (https://alaskanlumberjackshow.com/).
