Scared of going on cruise help

Whoa, there are some serious alarmists out there!

Sure, an earthquake can happen at any time, and ones in the Pacific can cause a tsunami. But if there was an earthquake, it might send the tsunami in a direction that does not impact you where you are on an island -- it could hit the other side if the earthquake was on the other side of the island. When you factor in the odds that a) there is an earthquake, b) it is on or close to the side of the island that you area on during the short period that you are there, or c) is somewhere that would cause a tsunami that would hit the side of the island you happen to be on during that short period of time, etc., the chances are pretty minute.

The only serious problem would be an earthquake close to Vanuatu while you are there -- the odds are absurdly low -- with a resultant tsunami's hitting the island before you could take any action. As others have pointed out, you are far more likely to get hit by a car, truck or lightning at home than being hurt in an earthquake or by a tsunami caused by an earthquake.

While the odds are not much, there could be an earthquake in the Pacific that would cause a tsunami that could travel across great distances. In that case, however, there is a lot of warning. Tsunamis travel fast, but the Pacific is one big ocean. AND the Pacific has a great tsunami alert system, and you can subscribe to it, so you would get a warning while you are on Vanuatu -- go to https://www.tsunami-alarm-system.com/en/index.html and sign up.

If the earthquake occurs while you are still at sea, and a tsunami alert goes out, the ship could well decide to skip the port call and stay at sea. Tsunamis are not tremendous waves, but rather small waves moving at very high speed -- 600 mph. At sea, you wouldn't even notice that it passed the ship.
