Tikka234 Posted January 18, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 18, 2018 Hi were going on a 3 night cruise with p o to Bruges and Guernsey in May Been looking at the excursions they want £35 to to do Bruges by yourself you get coach to Bruges a map and walked into town by a guide and return . How easy is it to get own transport into Bruges , how much is this ? Are there returns buses always available?don't want to be too late back to ship. Is there a long wait for t h e canal boat trip, if you diy it and not an excursion? We have only done one cruise before Norwegian Fjords and did enjoy the excursions, but they went further afield. Where can you get maps from? Is there anything around the port you can do as well? Any information appreciated Also about Guernsey diy Thanks
mrbluesea Posted January 18, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 18, 2018 Google toms port guides. There is a good one for bruges. For Guernsey use the local circular bus just get a timetable and choose where you want to get off. Floflegs Posted January 18, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 18, 2018 Share a taxi to Bruges. It is €100 return but you can get them for 8. Even with 4 sharing you are cheaper than P and O. Taxi drops you at main square and collects you there. If going on canal cruise do that first. They do get busy. Try the waffles and chocolates. Have a drink at the Wall of Beer Pub. Lots of places to see and things to do. You can do it by train/bus but less convenient.

ascot2012 Posted January 18, 2018 #5 Share Posted January 18, 2018 Hi we have been in this cruise a few years ago, we used the shuttle bus to get us to Blankenburg (not sure of spelling)and then caught the train into Bruges, really easy to do we just take a photo of the return train times on our phone, and you must keep an eye on the time, It's easily walk-able from the station into Bruges center, As with Guernsey I would recommend the local bus that goes around the island, I think it's the No7 and 7A, one goes clockwise and the other anto clockwise, if it's still the same it;s a fixed fee per journey. I think we just Google Guernsey buses and got the time table then just got off when the mood took us, had a look around and then waited for the next bus. tartanexile81 Posted January 18, 2018 #6 Share Posted January 18, 2018 We took the shuttle bus from the port gates into Bruges and it dropped us off in the same coach park ad the Bruges On Your Own Tour but half the price. Read about it here - http://www.cruise-express.be/ We rented a car in Guernsey and we just loved it. We had glorious weather and stopped numerous times in villages, beaches and places of interest. Didn't cost any more than it would have been for one of us on a P&O tour and we saw TONS more.
Thejuggler Posted January 18, 2018 #7 Share Posted January 18, 2018 Zeebrugge will have a proper cruise passenger terminal this summer. If it is open in May they will at last have a tourist info centre selling travel tickets etc. It also means the end of having to get a bus to the port gates! Purdey16 Posted January 18, 2018 #8 Share Posted January 18, 2018 We took shuttle bus into blankenburg (15) mins ,they drop you off opposite the train station (drop off is also pick up point ) trains run every hour and takes about 15 mins ,cost 5 Euros return each , then you can catch the bus into town at 6 Euros for two one way , there is a tourist information office in train station for maps and also one in town center which we used ,also good toilets inside there . Before leaving train station check return time for train but do not leave it too late as they run late or cancel one sometimes , all in it cost us 22euros for two and done this trip a few times but we always go early in morning to catch 8,50 train but bit of a rush has first shuttle leaves at 8,30 , train normally delayed , hope this helps
Purdey16 Posted January 18, 2018 #9 Share Posted January 18, 2018 Forgot to mention there are two different types of busses to catch the red bus just goes to the port Gates and this one you catch only if you're going in a taxi or other private booked trips , then there's the big coaches to take you into blankenburg .As for a new passenger terminal this summer I did not see any building being built recently in December so I'm not sure on that one
Thejuggler Posted January 18, 2018 #10 Share Posted January 18, 2018 Were you asleep or was it dark? It was about 5 stories high in July 17! I can only assume it wasn’t pointed out to you. Google Zeebrugge ABC Tower.
livelovelaugh84 Posted January 18, 2018 #11 Share Posted January 18, 2018 We used a Viator transfer (coach into Bruges). It picked up and dropped off at the same place as the ship tour coach and they provided a map. It was half the price of the cruise excursion and Bruges was easy to navigate without a guide. Google Zeebrugge ABC Tower. My apologies , just googled it but still can't recall seeing it and it wasn't pointed out to us because we didn't do a ships excursions and we're surrounded with ship containers
