Highland Rovers Posted May 2, 2018 #26 Share Posted May 2, 2018 I'm on the NCL Jade transatlantic to Southampton. We're in port at this moment in Brest, France...and the Breakaway is just across the way in drydock. Fabulous photo, thank you. We are sailing on her in July on a Baltic cruise, can't wait :D
fridaythe13th Posted August 2, 2018 #27 Share Posted August 2, 2018 I'm looking WAY ahead at February 2020. There is a big break in the schedule for mid month. Does anyone know if she will be due for a major refurbishment at that time?
chengkp75 Posted August 2, 2018 #28 Share Posted August 2, 2018 Agree with all the above posters. Since she is still a relatively new ship, don't expect any major overhauls. Just some cosmetic changes. Looking at her DNV-GL class record, it looks she will undergo quite a few surveys of her underwater components such as the hull, thrusters, and pods, as well as a few certificate renewals. http://vesselregister.dnvgl.com/VesselRegister/vesseldetails.html?vesselid=31388 As these happen to every ship at every drydocking, not sure what your point is. And since this is BA's first special survey, this will be the least amount of surveys she will ever have. They only get more complex and thorough as the ship ages. I believe the Epic was gutted as part of the "Norwegian Next" program, which BA came after, if I remember correctly, so I wouldn't expect any serious changes to public spaces, just some rebranding as others have mentioned, given the change in homeport. And demo of public spaces would take more than a couple of weeks, I went through the Norwegian Sky/Pride of Aloha, and we only did the casino, not the restaurants, and that was 3 weeks. Rare BirdTravels Posted August 2, 2018 #29 Share Posted August 2, 2018 The Epic was in dry dock for about 3 1/2 weeks. The Epic was originally built with all of the latest branded restaurants and features. However, with her dry dock. they did gut all of the public areas, stripping everything to the deck plates. They also opened up the hull so that they could remove and replace a couple of the engines which had a long history of problems. Some of the furniture was reupholstered by the crew. Some was replaced. We sailed on the repositioning cruise after the dry dock (London to Barcelona) and our cabin steward said that he was grouting tile until midnight the night before we boarded. And there was a lot of little things in our stateroom which were completed during our cruise.
