QM2 fan Posted January 19, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2018 (edited) Just curious, as when we did this trip we were told by skipper we had to leave Antarctica 24 hrs early due to a storm brewing in the Drake-we were a little surprised to find the weather not bad at all. Friend of mine messaged me today to say they too are having to head back to USH 24hrs early. I have also heard from others the same had happened to them,so I would be interested to hear if ANYONE had NOT had their trip cut short. No other reason than curiosity.. Now I know the Drake can be unpredictable, but it only ever seems to affect the home leg..never the outbound.....wondering if Silverseas are just using the wx as an excuse for a longer turnaround in USH..?? tgh Posted January 20, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 20, 2018 A reasonable explanation is that the ship must not miss the turnaround. (consider the consequences… ) Fwiw, we were back on time, but it was uber rough and the public areas were almost deserted.
57 varieties Posted January 20, 2018 #3 Share Posted January 20, 2018 We returned 12 hours early and the bonus was sailing up the channel in daylight.
zigtraveller Posted January 21, 2018 #4 Share Posted January 21, 2018 We actually stayed longer to sit out a storm. It was then a very rough 24 hours in the Drake before the seas calmed. We arrived into Ushuaia about 7am. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
