Caribbean local money

Would anyone advise having a small amount of local $$ in Aruba/Columbia/etc. Leaving Feb 5 Viking Ocean

Never been anywhere in the Caribbean where they didn’t take US$.😎

Just returned from Panama & Central America. They all took $$. Some places would the credit cards. Viking would advise you each day which places would only take cash. If you have some local money that's fine too.

Thanks for the replies. I was just thinking about maybe a coffee shop or a cab. Will Viking provide a US/foreign$$ chart? It appears that there is a different currency in each port.

I've never had an issue using USDs in the Caribbean region. I would not bother with getting local island currency. It seems like most tourist-related establishments (shops, restaurants, etc.) price items in USD.

Anyplace in the Caribbean will be more than happy to relieve you of your greenbacks.

My friend who is Colombian stated that American dollars are welcomed but you may not receive change in American dollars. Caribbean islands take American dollars as well as Aruba

A couple of years ago we were in Aruba and Curacao. Even though they accepted our credit card we noticed the charges were applied in Euros. If you don't have a credit card that doesn't charge foreign transaction fees you might want to consider one that does.
