Langham1865 Posted February 3, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 3, 2018 I'm currently booked on the NCL Bliss and a Platinum on NCL. I get all sorts of perks and the ship is built for Alaska (observation lounge and all) but NC doesn't have naturalists the way I have heard other lines do. I have heard great things about HAL and the Eurodam specifically, however I wondering about naturalists. Hoping for insight from someone, as I would consider changing lines for Alaska, if they have good naturalists on the one week Alaska itineraries. I would do a longer cruisetour, however work and finances just don't make that possible at this point. I can manage a aft facing balcony though. Thanks for any insight.... curtdesilets Posted February 4, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 4, 2018 We were on HAL a couple years ago. For the entire Glacier Bay day, they pick up two Forest Rangers from the Park Service and they lead the discussion for several hours as we tour Glacier Bay. You can talk to them for hours and they are very very knowledgeable. Also, get some Pea Soup that day!
Krazy Kruizers Posted February 4, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 4, 2018 We have only had naturalists when we visit Glacier Bay and Hubbard Glacier.

Herfnerd Posted February 5, 2018 #7 Share Posted February 5, 2018 HAL and Princess seem to do Alaska the best, at least that's what I found in my research before sailing on the Eurodam. I believe Princess is the only one that has the naturalists.

Last I heard he was on Solstice. http://www.naturetalksbybrentnixon.com/
shadow8800 Posted February 10, 2018 #9 Share Posted February 10, 2018 Brent Nixon gave a great talk as we traveled through Tracy Arm. We enjoyed him immensely . Unfortunately, Celebrity doesn't do Glacier Bay as they have no permits to do so. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G935A using Forums mobile app

CM1984 Posted February 10, 2018 #11 Share Posted February 10, 2018 Eurodam cruises Glacier Bay and as they come in, at some point the National Park Service sends a boat out with Park Rangers. They climb up the rope, and spend the day on the ship, narrating the features of the Bay, the glaciers, the wildlife; and are there to answer questions. Here are two links for more information. One about ships cruising Glacier Bay, the other is a video of a Park Ranger explaining what takes place while you are on the ship. Pretty cool! https://www.nps.gov/glba/planyourvisit/cruise.htm https://www.nps.gov/media/video/view.htm?id=C3DE800C-1DD8-B71C-0770772C503276A4
