Cruise Cash vs Cruise Cash Bar

We usually cruise with Royal Caribbean but a member of our family is going on a Carnival cruise for her birthday and we’d like to surprise her with onboard credit. I went to Carnival’s website today and found Cruise Cash as well as Cruise Cash Bar. Can anyone explain the difference? It seems like Cruise Cash would cover any charges to the account (which I assume would cover drinks as well) so I’m confused why someone would pick Cruise Cash Bar instead. Thanks!

Go with cruise cash.... it can be used for anything, drinks, shops, casino etc. don't have to worry. Also Carnival has gift cards you can buy at places like Kroger etc. and take with you.

Our bar budget for our upcoming trip will be $700, so I'll probably buy cruise bar cash a few days prior to the cruise to lessen the hit on the credit card.

Only problem with cruise cash is that it is non refundable if she doesn't use it. If you get gift cards, she can apply it to her on board account and of she doesn't use it she'll get it back on a new gift card.

Yes, but if this is a surprise for the family member, family member probably won't know this trick, and the OP may not be able to instruct said family member how to get the money back via the casino, as it would be a surprise.

1. If you are purchasing as a gift, it enables you to give an amount less than $100, which is the minimum gift card.
   
2. I, personally, purchase a little bit of CC so that I can bypass Guest Services with my gift cards until a little bit later in the cruise (next day, usually) when they aren't so busy.

Thanks for the advice! I just assumed the gift card could only be used toward the purchase of a cruise. I’ll check around, we were thinking $60 so it sounds like we may have to stick with CC.
