wunderlust123 Posted February 19, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 19, 2018 Hello. We are Jan and Bill Nemetz. We have been on two river cruises with viking. This is our first Ocean cruise. We just signed up for West Indies to Spain departing March 4 (five days ago) so we have some fancy footwork to do in a short period of time. We would appreciate any tips, suggestions, recommendations. We signed up for the meet and greet and currently looking into the excursions (a couple of which are already sold out). Are there options for private excursions outside of Viking? We are interested in something like a Tapas tasting while is spain. Do we need to book reservations for dining in the specialty restaurants? Again, we are looking for any tips etc you can offer us. We are looking forward to this trip and meeting everyone. Kind regards, Jan Nemetz

Kind regards, Jan Nemetz If you are looking to share a private tour, ask on the roll call for your cruise. I believe that someone shared the link with you in another post. It might be too late to make reservations and book cruises. Booking closes a week or two before embarkation. Check on MyVikingJourney.com, which you should have already registered for. You will be able to make reservations for specialty restaurants once you are on board. Do it on the day you board. If you are looking for tips, read the thread Tips for New Viking Ocean Cruisers It is long but you will learn a lot more than waiting for folks to respond here. garycarla Posted February 19, 2018 #4 Share Posted February 19, 2018 ...We would appreciate any tips, suggestions, recommendations. Again, we are looking for any tips etc you can offer us. As mentioned, check out the Roll Call. But, the biggest suggestion/tip I can offer is to scan down through postings here from the past few weeks. It is FULL of tips and information. All the Viking Ocean ships are 99% the same by the way.

Kind regards, Jan Nemetz Jan, I know you are excited about your trip and you should be - you’ll have a great time . For your own safety, don’t ever use your full name in anything you post in this forum . You never know who is reading this and taking notes on your whereabouts. Use a nickname or just your first name . To answer most of your questions read their marketing brochures first . Then call or e mail Viking, they have a wonderful email address which escapes me . Call 18888506260 and ask them for it . You will love your time aboard -
bcorre2 Posted March 5, 2018 #6 Share Posted March 5, 2018 Learn to keep your stance wide and low. Saw the Sky pass by your first stop this morning (St Martin) due to high seas and now headed into a channel towards Spain with 30+ knot winds on either side. It's bound to get better. Watching you on Marine Traffic and will be onboard the Viking Sea Mar 17th for West Indies Explorer.;p

The port was closed today , so the Viking Sky could not dock. Do not know how they ended up in St. Martin and not San Juan? Yes, high seas is a accurate term to use for them today .... With the crazy weather in the Northeast this past weekend it is possible that there travel plans were disrupted and the best they could do was to meet the ship in St. Martin. And high seas and big waves in San Juan and some of the islands. St. Martin port was closed to all ships today.
sunbrookgal Posted March 5, 2018 #10 Share Posted March 5, 2018 I've heard that is just not so. No one was "left behind" on St Martin. Which is which? Anyway we are having a great time.

sandybeachy Posted March 13, 2018 #12 Share Posted March 13, 2018 We are on the West Indies Cruise now and had a similar experience. We called Viking and their answer was everyone will be offered the included tour after boarding the ship. We went to excursions first thing after boarding where we were able to book all the tours we wanted. The same with the Restaurants. It appears they hold back on some times so that everyone had a chance to book. There are a few excursions which they cancelled entirely but they mark as full like El Yunque in San Juan due to hurricane damage. Confusing until you are on board. It has been a fabulous cruise!
