US Govt warning about Playa De Carmen

This is not a big deal for cruises. There's so much to do on Cozumel that I don't know why someone would pay to sit on a ferry and go somewhere there is less to do.

 

 

 

Agreed. We did it once several years ago. What a waste of time, just to go view a big pile of rocks, because as Mayan Ruins go, Tulum was disappointing.

Statistics are great...on paper. Doesn’t change how I or my kids’ feel. But like anything else...we adapt and keep it moving, while traveling and while working & going to school.

 

I absolutely agree! With the news showing all of these horrific acts on television 24/7, it's a wonder any of us can sleep at night! I've watched videos of schools performing 'active shooter drills' and the drills alone are terrifying. I only pointed out statistics because they can be helpful in alleviating some of those fears or at least allowing us to take the opportunites. The truth is, there are a ton of activities that we don't think twice about that are more of a risk to us than either going to school OR traveling out of the Country. Let's start with driving to work/school. I bet most of us know of someone that was killed or seriously injured in a car accident! Happy cruising and stay safe in your school! Thanks for your dedication to the kids!:):)

The drills can be scary, but they are very necessary to create a rote response. My campus had an active shooter (never made the local or national news) two years ago. Sometimes these statistics are misleading. But anywhoo, I love what I do and the kids’ have to learn, so we adapt and become more vigilant. Thanks Naz for the recognition.

Actually there is more to do on the mainland than on Coz. There is Coba, you can still climb the ruins. Cenotes, Xel-Ha, Xcaret, Cave diving, Sian Ka'an, Yal-Ku Lagoon, Akumal to swim with the turtles, etc. I actually have a secret reef and beach accessible only by boat. Swim to shore, short walk thru the jungle to a beautiful cenote. My secret reef I have seen turtles, manta rays, eagle rays, nurse sharks, the assorted colorful reef fish and even the notorious scorpion fish.

 

Diving/Snorkeling is VERY GOOD in Coz, especially at reef Palancar and starfish at El Cielo. Beaches in Coz are in better shape right now due to the sargassum (seaweed) all along the Riviera Maya. It's seems to be a seasonal occurrence for the last few years.

The USA embassy in Mexico changed its initial notice, the facilities will reopen next Monday and the travel restriction is only to some neighborhoods of Playa del Carmen.

The neighborhoods effected are all along the beach east of 307 from Juarez to Calle 34 Norte. This is the main tourist area of Playa. The office in Playa is a U.S. Consular Office on the west side of 307 near Casino Red which is not in the restricted areas

Thank you, they will reopen the U.S. Consular Office on March 12th. Initially they closed it and the nearest office for Americans who need something would have been 175 miles away.
