Cigar smoking on RCCL

Recommended Posts

We have been on lots of cruises, but will be on our first RCCL cruise in a few weeks! My hubby would like to know where it is permissible to smoke cigars. We will be on the Granduer soon & are booked on the Oasis in December, so would love to know about these 2 ships in particular. Thanks for any help!

Just off Oasis smoking areas are on deck 15 by pool bar both cigar and cigarette smoking allowed. My husband said there was an area on deck 16

As well but since it's an open area can be windy He is a cigar smoker.

0asis use to have a cigar bar fwd on deck 17 but has been replaced by suites only area.

Never been on Grandeur but some ships allow smoking on open decks by

Life boats as well.

If he wants to know where to buy Cuban cigars let me know!

RCI store does NOT sell them on board !

Depends on what ports you are going to:

San Juan/ Labadee / St Thomas none

St Martin walk beach promenade to center by ferry dock make a left on Main Street (you will be around all the jewelry stores)

Look for the liquor store on right and ask for cigars. Upstairs

(There is a large Liquor store to your right on The main st

As well we bought cigars at as well)

Grand Cayman: store is next to entrance to Margaritaville

In shopping arcade

Also checkout Cigar bar in front of Harley Davidson cafe

The fellow is always chewing on a giant stoggie everyone takes a picture with him

Cozumel: walk outside of port area to left ( do not cross street) not even a block corner store front is vey small / sometimes closed but check back prices are good. Ask taxi drivers if you can't find it they ususlly are hovering there for a fare.

Jamaica: Falmouth many shops in shopping area prices are usually a bit high

Aruba: across street from port in shopping area big leather chairs and humidor back corner of shopping area hard to miss...very nice stores in arcade.

All vendors selling in and around port prices are usually high a short walk is worth it!

Always ask locals they will direct you if you can't find a store.

Hope this helps!

JUST MY OPINION..... BUT.....

I don't know what kind of Cigar your husband normally smokes/likes, but I love a good Med. to Full body smoke. Arturo Fuentes, and Ashton are my favorites (some of them cost about $10 to $14 a piece). Next to that, a good Partega will do (about $7 each).

When I would go on a cruise, I always thought it would be "special" to have a good Cuban Cigar, so I would go out shopping (cabarr gave some great places) and spend $20 to $25  on a good Cuban.

Then I would HATE myself, because I would smoke it and realize it wasn't half as good as the Ashton Spellbound that I like so much.

So I don't buy Cubans anymore.;p

Personally I think that unless the ship has a dedicated indoor cigar bar the cigar smoking experience is less than ideal. Especially if the ship is moving. I think Royal has basically said they will be removing the cigar lounges during refits, so expect them all to be gone in the next few years.

As stated above, on Allure there is no longer a cigar bar. You can smoke on Deck 15 by the Pool bar and directly above on Deck 16 by the Sky bar. Also in the casino. Best place on a nice day/night would be Deck 15.

On Grandeur I believe that you can smoke on the port side open areas as well as the casino. I think the walking deck outside is Deck 5. That area is normally quieter and they also have chairs all along that area to sit. You can also smoke on the port side on Deck 9 by the pools. I didn't see any smoking lounge anymore on that ship either.

Both ships will have the area's marked with ashtrays and smoking signs.

Buyer beware. If he's wanting to buy "cuban's " at any of those ports, chances are he's not very familiar with authentic Cuban cigars. I simply say this because most who smoke Cuban's know where to purchase them from regarded distributors around the world. 99% chance he will be purchasing an overpriced, poorly kept fake unless he absolutely knows how to identify authentic cubans from "tourist" cubans. I've been smoking Cubans since the mid 90's and even today, i still have issues picking out authentic Cuban's unless i'm purchasing them directly from one of my verified sources and quite honestly, there are only a very few that i smoke. most are sub-par these days particularly with the embargo being lifted causing an increase in every Joe on the block selling mass produced cuban's now. No disrespect intended, he just needs to know the position he's putting himself in. He'd be better off bringing some favorites from home or as DHADEN mentioned above, a Fuente, Ashton VSG or Tatuaje is hard to beat in my book. buying from a local shop will cost less, cigars will be maintained much better and will certainly enhance the overall enjoyment of it.

On Grandeur you can smoke cigars in the poolside smoking area on deck 9 or the smoking area on port side deck 5

nanny, please note that you received only this one response about the Grandeur. You may ignore all of the other replies. :D :D :D

There is one Cuban Cigar I would recommend and I have never seen counterfeited. Bolivars are available in most ports ( especially Cozumel - Casa de Havana, St. Maarten and Falmouth. As a general rule I would heartily recommend any cigar from My Father, especially the Flor de la las Antillas. It is a wonderful medium to full body smoke with great flavor and an easy draw.

Sad but true.

I agree with others who think Cubans maybe a little overrated but Googling 'La Casa Del Habano' and the island your visiting will give you the best locations to buy. The ones I have frequented are Falmouth Jamaica (in the port shopping area), Cozumel (downtown) and Grand Cayman (just outside the port area). Stay away from liquor stores is my only other advice.

I have had the best luck with LCDH as well. There is one in St. Kitts right at the pier. It's on the right hand side on the second floor immediately as you exit the yellow building at the pier. They also have a very comfortable covered but open air lounge overlooking the port area to enjoy a certified Cuban. Also, I recently found out that they take online orders and can ship to the US. Now my box is fully stocked with some wonderful sticks!

I might have to check out St. Kitts on our itinerary in February. My son and I grabbed a couple of sticks in Falmouth two weeks ago but there was no where to sit and smoke inside and the wind was whipping outside. We took them back to the pool deck on the ship.
