Emerald through the canal

Looking at the April 2019 Emerald Cruise through the Panama Canal. Since the Emerald is larger than the Island, was wondering which set of locks it would use. Would it have to use the new locks, or would it still fit through the old locks?

If you have never been through the canal, I would choose a ship that will go through the old locks. The new locks are not much to see. They work different than the old. There are only two of them. You can not see the old locks from the new. To experience the Canal you have to do the old locks.

If you decide on the April 2019 Emerald through the Panama Canal -- join our roll call (April 11th). Small roll call but hope it is more active as time gets closer to the cruise. Some people are only cruising Vancouver to Los Angeles and others are starting the cruise in Los Angeles.
