Onboard credit and credit card question

We have quite a bit of onboard credit, have pre purchased soft drinks packages so will they still put pre authorisation amounts on our credit card or not until onboard credit is used?

Princess does not do pre-authorizations. Once your OBC is exhausted they may do some test transactions (that will drop off once the grand total is charged) in the amount of individual purchases every couple days to make sure your card is valid. Even on cruises when I have had zero OBC that is all that was done.

 

Now if you use a debit card rather than a revolving charge credit card, yes there will be holds. Possibly for total amounts exceeding your net charges, and that don't drop off until well after you return home.

Princess to pre otherwse your card on check-in, I can see it on my cc app. Its usually around $200. We had a load of obc and they've still done this.

Our experience is that they do a pre-authorization regardless of how much obc you have. We once did a Mediterranean cruise and forgot to inform cc company there would a transaction originating in the US - consequently the pre-authorization was rejected and we got a call from the front desk to sort it out. Lesson learned.

Earlier this month they did a 100 authorization on my credit card
