Sunmist Posted April 26, 2018 #1 Share Posted April 26, 2018 I’ve heard if you don’t have a shore excursion with Royal it takes a long time to get off the ship because of tendering. In your experience, what time was the average people without an excursion got on the island in Grand Caymen?
M_BA Posted April 26, 2018 #2 Share Posted April 26, 2018 My three times to the Caymen Islands have varied. Back in 2001, Rhapsody used its own orange boats to tender us in. It was cumbersome and took about an hour. Nowadays, RCL uses local tenders that have 100+ passengers capacity per boat. You can usually depart and be on the island within a half hour. wolfganghowell Posted April 26, 2018 #3 Share Posted April 26, 2018 Sorry but I wouldn't count on half an hour. Too many variables - if the sea conditions are choppy, it takes longer to load and dock the tenders. If there are a lot of passengers with Royal excursions, you are behind them. Suite passengers can be escorted to the front of the line so if you have a herd of them, the line is longer. Most reviews lately have been around an hour. Sure you could get off in 30 but I wouldn't make it a vital part of your plan.
Sunmist Posted April 26, 2018 Author #4 Share Posted April 26, 2018 Yeah .. that’s what I’m thinking.. an hour or so. Ugh. It’s all part of it though! Still on a cruise, so I can’t complain!
JTBCruiser Posted April 30, 2018 #5 Share Posted April 30, 2018 We've done Grand Cayman twice now and neither was an RCI tour. I don't recall waiting very long but we had a chance to get up and have breakfast in the MDR then go. Had plenty of time to make our excursions. twincheryl Posted April 30, 2018 #6 Share Posted April 30, 2018 Just allow plenty of time to tender back to the ship in the afternoon. The line was REALLY long, and standing in the sun for most of the time was a bit uncomfortable!
George C Posted April 30, 2018 #7 Share Posted April 30, 2018 I have seen it take a couple of hours , we normally stay on board since we have done this a few times
TEXASMUNK Posted May 1, 2018 #8 Share Posted May 1, 2018 If you are truly desperate to get onshore early. Be up, be packed and be down at the disembarkation area long before the first tender arrives to take the RCI crew ashore, often (not a guarantee) they will let you ride over to the pier with them. No guarantee, but we have done it twice....success both times over the years. But you have to be down there EARLY.
