Tipping at the beginning of your cruise?

Thanks for all the feedback everyone. I think I'm still going to tip generously at the beginning of the cruise. To clarify I am not talking about handing the room steward or bartender money at first interaction, I am referring to leaving a nice tip after the first day of drinking or an envelope with cash for the steward after the first time the room is cleaned. If it works that's great, if not whatever I can just adjust tips accordingly throughout the cruise.
