Junecruising99 Posted June 4, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 4, 2018 For those who have recently disembarked the Royal in Southhampton -- I'm interested in disembarkation experiences or tips from those going directly from the port to the airport. If you walked off (carrying your own luggage) how early could you get off of the ship? If you went directly to Heathrow, how long was the trip (or what time did you arrive at the airport)? Any problems or tips for getting to the terminals?
Micahs Grandad Posted June 4, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 4, 2018 Trip took about 90 minutes did hit some traffuc. Do not remember how early we could have gotten off as we had an early afternoon flight and were in no rush to get off the ship.
ChattTenn Posted June 4, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 4, 2018 We took Princess transfer and left the port after 9 AM. We got 2PM flight and it took a good 90 minutes to get to Heathrow (on Sunday).
skynight Posted June 4, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 4, 2018 Yes, 90 mins. We also found out that it takes at least 2 hours for check in, security. Also make certain you get a transfer to the correct terminal. Changing terminals at Heathrow is a little complicated. We were at the United terminal and we needed to get to the B.A. terminal. We had to take the city subway, free but confusing.
moki'smommy Posted June 4, 2018 #5 Share Posted June 4, 2018 At one point Heathrow had the largest footprint of any airport worldwide (not sure if that is still true or not). It is HUGE. Yes, be sure you know which terminal you need and get dropped at the correct one. And allow plenty of time for check in and getting to your gate. You can actually walk as much as 2 miles! Their handicap assist program is terrible...second only to JFK.
Rare geoherb Posted June 5, 2018 #6 Share Posted June 5, 2018 We took the Princess transfer to Heathrow last August. They had everyone assigned to our luggage tag color on the same bus. The worst part of the ride was catching the flu from all the sick people on board.
