retafcruiser Posted June 18, 2018 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2018 Can anyone suggest how many Brazilian Reals we should obrtain ahead of time? We will be on Sirena this November for the Amazon cruise out of Miami. I have also asked on my roll call but had no response. Thanks.
sitraveler Posted June 18, 2018 #2 Share Posted June 18, 2018 Get your funds when you arrive in Brazil. The only cost effective way of getting Reales is at an ATM in Brazil. No one can tell you how much money to carry. But tips etc can be paid in US dollars.
RJ2002 Posted June 18, 2018 #3 Share Posted June 18, 2018 We did an Amazon cruise last year on Regent, and we did not obtain any foreign currency. USD were readily accepted everywhere we went, and the tour guides seemed quite satisfied with USD tips. If you feel you must obtain local currency, I agree with sitraveler... get it at an ATM after you arrive. Get ready for an amazing experience in the Amazon! sammiedawg Posted June 18, 2018 #4 Share Posted June 18, 2018 We got a modest amount of reals from our bank, prior to departure. Enough for Cabs in Rio and a little to spare. Otherwise we used credit cards and American dollars. Private tour operators want $$$.
Rare travelberlin Posted June 18, 2018 #5 Share Posted June 18, 2018 We also have got our money from ATMs or exchange houses. ATMs give a limited amount of money per day. I do not remember now how much but maybe around US 200. Ivi

Rare Caroldoll Posted June 19, 2018 #7 Share Posted June 19, 2018 Call your bank and they will order them for you. Also, I don't trust the ATM's but others do.
