Anyways, what I am getting at is, I am trying to understand what your main concern is. Is it that you are concerned of the security of the safe itself? You ask how to ensure that money put on your S & S card is only used for the casino (not for other purchases).

 

I think if you tell us exactly what your concern is then someone could address your specific issue.

I don't want to leave anything valuable like cash in a safe that's not secure like the ones used in hotel rooms. On other cruise lines, you can deposit your casino cash with the casino. It sounds like Carnival does it, too. It's much safer that way. Apparently a lot of people in this thread had no idea how bad the security is on these safes. They can be opened and nobody would be the wiser.

 

I never had an issue with in-room theft, but other people have....on a Carnival cruise.

The first video link you had was only speaking about one specific brand of safe. The issue wasn't with the safe itself it was one of an issue if the operator/owner did not read the owner's manual before use.

 

Now I know that all kinds of people have reported theft from their cabins, and I am sure that sometimes there have been some, but is the link above seriously the best that you could come up with to suggest this is prevalent.

 

Even you admit, you have never had a theft. You can't live your life worrying about things that might happen.

Well let’s see. First the cabin doors are kept open when they clean and there are lots of people walking by. Second, the ship is the perfect place to catch a thief. Unlike a hotel, there is nowhere to flee. Should someone be suspected of something, any evidence would be still aboard. Thirdly, typically the workers come from some very poor places and they wouldn’t want to risk immediate termination which can happen probably a lot easier on the ship than having to deal with the legalities of the US.

 

The safe video is almost laughable. Once I got past the booger in his nose, I had to wonder who in their right mind would trade out ones and fives for twenties. Why wouldn’t they just take the cash? Besides, once the “Master Card” is used, I don’t think your ordinary card would open the safe again. It works the opposite way - the MC can override the guest’s card, but it doesn’t work the other way around. And since the MC would overwrite the guest’s card being there’s no memory stored from the previous card used, how were they able to open the safe? I would think that if the MC was used, the safe would have been open or their card wouldn’t work. In either of those cases I would have immediately called security and they could pull video from the halls and check the cabin’s door lock to see who had accessed the cabin and started their investigation. I think his wifey went to the casino and took some cash or maybe traded it out with what she had. Or maybe they had a bunch of ones for tipping and got it all confused.

 

Oh and correct me if I’m wrong - he said they took $180 out for Cozumel and on the paper he wrote $160. Sounds fishy to me.

 

Anyway, the safes on the ship are safe. Much better than walking around with a bunch of cash and whatnot.

Since you seem to think it’s all a big scam (as in the safes), I’ll leave the tinfoil hats to you. I’m not the one that thinks the government, a room steward, Carnival, or whomever is out to get me or my money.

 

The doors left open will allow people to see in deterring theft from a LOCKED safe that only the ship’s officers have the card/code to. And being they are poor they would be super foolish to risk getting caught for what they have no idea is the amount in the safe. They can make thousands per contract and they are going to risk that for what could amount to $50 maybe more maybe less? Extremely dumb. You have a better chance of your fellow passenger ducking in and swiping something you left out in the open when the RS is out or from your luggage in the hallway than that happening.

 

Explain how the guy’s safe got locked and his card worked in it supposedly after someone with the MC “exchanged” money. The guy couldn’t even get his story straight. Did he take $180 or $160 out? I call bogus.

I want to bring cash for the casino, but I don't want to carry it around with me or keep it in the room safe. What are my options? If I add cash to my Sal and Sign card, how do I ensure it ONLY gets used at the casino and not for other purchases?
