david_sobe Posted July 1, 2018 #1 Share Posted July 1, 2018 (edited) Its rare to celebrate miracles on Cruise Critic but there is always a first. What transpired over the last 24 hours is nothing short of a miracle. We on cruise critic are the first ones to jump on a cruise line for doing things wrong. Today we all tip our hats to the Captain and crew of the NCL Getaway. Less than 24 hours ago was full of sadness, gloom, and doom. After the captain realized the crew member was missing, he went into action as he and the crew are trained. It took them an hour or so to get back to the area to start the search. Persons falling overboard or jumping are usually discovered missing fairly soon. This search was more complicated due to the time that passed. The captain and crew were able to get back to the area and notify the coast guard of the area to search. Somehow the captain made it back to Miami earlier than anyone could imagine. Even more shocking is the Getaway is only delayed about 4 hours and will have a spectacular Miami sunset sail away in a few hours from now. To top it off, NCL is reported to have given every passenger $30 OBC for the inconvenience of the delay. Congratulations to the crew of NCL Getaway for not leaving anyone behind and saving a life. Incredible job by all including the Coast Guard and Carnival Cruise lines !!!! All of you have exceeded expectations anyone could have ever imagined!!!! 2naBill Posted July 1, 2018 #6 Share Posted July 1, 2018 A piece of advice for my fellow cruisers. If you ever see anyone go overboard start throwing things that will float over board. Trash cans, life preservers whatever it may give the person something to help keep them afloat and also helps to mark the location of the incident. living the CruiseLife

When I was on a Caribbean cruise, a tender port, as a tender full of passengers approached the ship, the tender exploded. Many people in the sea. Passengers on board the cruise ship started throwing things overboard for the swimmers. One woman was hit by a chair thrown overboard and ended up with a broken jaw from the chair and not from the explosion (all persons on the tender were saved).
