new_cruiser Posted July 9, 2018 #4 Share Posted July 9, 2018 I was on the first ship of the year in Seward and that was May 17. First ship in Whittier was May 12. So for one way cruises the start was May. First ships in 2018 from Seattle & Vancouver were very late in April. The typical cruise season is May to September, but you will occasionally see one at the end of April. I wouldn't go that early, personally. sunpsyche Posted July 9, 2018 #7 Share Posted July 9, 2018 We were on Celebrity Millennium’s first Alaskan cruise of the year on May 10. Don’t know about other lines.
peety3 Posted July 10, 2018 #8 Share Posted July 10, 2018 We did an "Alaska Sampler" in 2015 and that was a four-night cruise that started in April and ended in May. We only stopped at Ketchikan, and the town was truly just "waking up" that day. Half the shops were closed, and those that were open were only at 50% inventory/staff/etc.

kennicott Posted July 12, 2018 #10 Share Posted July 12, 2018 Cruises to Alaska are beginning earlier and ending later as the years go by. No doubt this has been to the the general all around warming we have been experiencing for the last three decades or better. I wouldn't be the least surprised to see a significant number of Cruises begin in latter April and end around mid October in the next few years. I would expect these to occur in and involve Southeast Alaska though and not Central Alaska.
Rare Keith1010 Posted July 12, 2018 #11 Share Posted July 12, 2018 Some lines begin in April and others in May. Keith
