Help 5 Day Formal Night

Daughter is taking the 5 day northern Europe cruise she wanted to know what night formal would be,can anyone help out ? They are in port every day, I thought maybe it would be the day when they leave port of call at 4:00 pm all other days 9:00 and 10:00 departures. This is only her 2nd cruise and her husbands 1st they are newbies and want to experience everything.

Not the norm but over the years I've had multiple Formal nites on a day we were in Port late as 8-10pm....

Sorry forgot to post it is the Oct 20 ,2018 sailing out of Southampton on the IOS. They are in a port of call every night.
