PhirstTimeCruiser Posted August 18, 2018 #1 Share Posted August 18, 2018 Hello, My husband and I will be going on our first cruise this October and we are very excited for this new experience! I do have some logistical questions that I'm hoping some people with cruise experience can help answer: 1) Our cruise is set to board in Quebec City on Friday and then stay in Quebec on Saturday and depart Saturday night. Once we check in and board the ship and drop off our luggage on Friday, can we get off the ship to explore the city as we please or are we supposed to stay on the ship for the rest of Friday? 2) When the ship docks at various ports, can we get on and off the ship as we please or you aren't supposed to get back on until a certain time once you get off? Is it easy to get on and off the ship? We don't have mobility issues. 3) If we stay on the ship instead of getting off at the port of call, do all the amenities on the ship remain open during the day, like restaurants and such? Thank you! Rare shof515 Posted August 18, 2018 #2 Share Posted August 18, 2018 yes, you can enter/exitt the ship as many times as you want. To leave the ship, make sure security scans your ship card/key card. To enter the ship, you have to pass through a metal detector and then security scans your ship card/lkey card again. make sure you onboard by the all on board time. usually a half hour to one hour before sail away time mostly everything is open with limited hours. like they will only be one dinning room open for breakfast/lunch. check the ship daily newsletter for the hours
Rare LHT28 Posted August 18, 2018 #3 Share Posted August 18, 2018 Once the ship is cleared by the authorities you can get off & on as you wish ..just be sure to be onboard 30 mins prior to the sailaway time If you stay on the ship in port the casinos & shops will be shut but bars & restaurants will be open as stated check the daily newsletter for times

Northern Aurora Posted August 19, 2018 #6 Share Posted August 19, 2018 Every cruise line has a daily newsletter (often referred to as the "daily"). These newsletters are delivered the night before, and on port days will specify the time passengers need to be back onboard. They also have information about the port agent for the cruise line (i.e., cell number, e-mail and so forth). While we have never had need to contact the port agent, after having a bad fall in Costa Rica, I now generally take the daily with me in my travel purse. Also, pay attention if you are told to take a government issued ID (i.e. driver's license) with you as some of the shore contractors manning the cruise terminal gate to return to the ship may want to see both your sea pass (or ship card) AND a government issued ID. Tondakea Posted August 19, 2018 #7 Share Posted August 19, 2018 Your ' key' is credit card sized. Keep that and a photo id ( if necessary at port) with you. On/off as you please Safe travels.
Jiffymom Posted August 19, 2018 #8 Share Posted August 19, 2018 We often get off in the morning. Come back for lunch and rest. Head out again. Always take your ID. Getting off in the morning is often hectic due to so many are rushing off to tours.
