In addition to the AI feel, did you feel you drank more than enough to cover the cost? How did you do on port days on those cruises? Do you drink a lot of non-alcoholic, but pay for drinks (specialty coffee, soft drink, powerade, etc)?

It sounds like you will drink less on this cruise, but the question is how much less. I personally wouldn't do it, but that's based on knowing my drinking habits - not yours;).

A few suggestions to possibly help you decide:

  • $500 Cruise Cash or Cruise Bar Cash (limit is $500 per type/per cabin, but can do any amount from $25-$500). No "discount" on drinks, but your AI experience would be $500 vs $800 and you could get drinks for your son with this. Bar Cash can only be used at the bars and general Cruise Cash can be used for anything on the sign and sail. These funds are non-refundable (but can use Cruise Cash in the casino slot machine).
  • Carnival gift card(s) - refundable to another Carnival gift card to use on a future cruise (or use the casino). Still have the A/I feel at a lower cost than Cheers
  • Apply cash to your account in the amount you are willing to pay for drinks. Fully refundable if more than $10 left over, less is donated to St. Jude.
  • If you feel Cheers is still the better deal, you can make your own "milkshake" for your son with soft serve and lemonade or soft serve and chocolate milk (maybe pack a small container of Nesquick or hot cocoa packs to mix with the ice cream for a "frosty". If you pack some cans of root beer you could make floats too. Lots of respect to you though for recognizing that your son isn't covered by the adult's Cheers and you should pay for his milkshake if that's what you choose to get:cool:

Enjoy your cruise whatever you decide:D

I may regret getting it and keep questioning myself. I know my hubby will get his worth, but yes, with 4 ports, getting back to ship, probably being tired but need to drink LOL!! Thanks for the tips and I'll report back after Oct. 14 to tell if it was worth it.

Greatest Value - glad I could help. We've had days that we definitely enjoyed quite a few drinks, but also had days we didn't drink much (rough seas, too much sun, just not in the mood). It's nice to not feel the pressure to drink just to make the package "worth it." Enjoy the RB floats:cool: (I don't know if bars have beer mugs like they do wine glasses - that would make it even better vs the small lido cups)

Isladonna - enjoy the Cheers purchase if you get it and don't have any regrets. Between the two of you based on the habits you described, I think combined you will likely get your money's worth. Splurge on some of the specialty coffees in the morning and powerade type drinks to replace electrolytes on the port days, then enjoy trying lots of different drinks on your sea days. The heavier sea days should balance out the lighter port days (and some of our port times are short - yours might be too).

Looking forward to your review. If nothing else, you'll have a learning experience and better information for your next cruise:cool:

I buy gift cards through AARP. They have a 10% discount. Then I apply the cards to my sign and sail account once I get onboard. For my next cruise (7 nights) I will have $500 on my sign and sail card from the gift cards. That is pretty close to AI for us. And we can use it for anything from bars to photos to excursions.
