Can we do Cannes on foot?

On the cruise critic description for the Canne's port it says that you can get to the center of town by foot. But none of the threads hint at this at all.

DW and I just want to have an easy day and walk around town. Is that doable?

Absolutely. All the main tourist parts of Cannes are easily reachable on foot (from the tender pier) for those that enjoy walking. Once you leave the tender area just keep walking towards the center of town (keep the Marina on your right) and in less then 10 minutes you will near the large Exhibition Center (where they hold the Film Festival). If you get bored you can walk over to the train station and catch a train to other towns along the coast including Antibes, Nice, and even Monte Carlo (over an hour on the train).

Awesome, do you know if transportation is required from the train station in Antibes or Nice?

In Antibes you can walk from the station..if you do like long walks (20-25 min). The Nice train station is located in the heart of the city, but this is not always where tourists want to be. If you are heading over to the Flower Market or adjacent Old Town its a very long walk and you might want to save time by grabbing a taxi. My big problem when we talk about walking is that what I consider a reasonable walking day (10 miles would be fine) is not what many folks want to do...especially on port days.

But here is the best part of DIY days. You can change your plans "on the fly" as you find things of interest. Perhaps you will enjoy Cannes, decide to have a long lunch, do some shopping...and that will be your day. On the other hand, maybe you get tired of Cannes...and decide to jump on the train and check out Antibes or Nice. Just beware of the time as you want to be back in Cannes in plenty of time to catch a tender to your ship.

Over a lot of decades of DIY travel we have developed a very simple philosophy. We spend a lot of pre-trip time doing our homework and learning about all the possible options that get our interest. But we often do not actually decide what we will do until that same day...as our plans might change based on our mood, the weather, crowds, etc. DW reminds of me of one day in Rome when we had a great plan for the day. In the morning we stopped at the Piazza Navona (a favorite spot) and sat down to have a cup of coffee. 4 hours later we were still in those same seats (having had coffee, lunch, wine, etc) because the People Watching was so much fun. All of our planning was for nothing :). The truth is that in 50+ years of extensive travel, many of my best days have been when we simply fell into something totally unexpected.
