TexasCruiser84 Posted September 10, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 10, 2018 Don't worry, this is not a rant about straws - just a recommendation. I had read that paper straws can get a little gummy in boozy drinks, so I picked these up for our cruise, thought they worked out great, and wanted to pass along the info without it being lost in a thread with hundreds of comments. https://www.target.com/p/silikids-reusable-silicone-straws-6pk/-/A-52235717 This 6 pack has 3 different sizes, which worked out well for the various cup sizes used for drinks on the ship. They bend easily which worked out well for putting them in pockets, smaller evening purses or beach bags. Although they won't stir as well as a stainless steel straw, they worked well. seemoreroyals Posted September 10, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 10, 2018 We purchased a pack of 150 plastic straws from Dollar Tree for $1. I mainly drink beer and wife is a wine drinker so the only time we would need a straw would be for an occasional BBC or other type of frozen drink that is difficult to drink without a straw. On our last cruise on Epic in May there was no problem getting straws. To those that have traveled the last couple of months, are straws gone completely or will they still provide you one if you ask for one with your frozen drink? We are going to be on the Breakaway in November and would rather not bring our own straws if we don't have to.
TexasCruiser84 Posted September 10, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted September 10, 2018 I overheard some guests ask for straws on Escape and they were told there were no straws available.
GA Dave Posted September 10, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 10, 2018 On the Getaway right now. We bought stainless steel straws from Amazon. Been working great, easy to clean out. Also have been given all my drinks (and there have been a bunch! ;)) in glass. No plastic cups.
Sand and Seas Posted September 10, 2018 #5 Share Posted September 10, 2018 Just got off the Dawn and there were no straws. The hotel director did tell us at the M & G that NCL is waiting for a supplier who can provide individually wrapped paper straws for all 15 ships. Apparently this large order is taking some time to fill:confused: Until then....bring your own!
cb at sea Posted September 10, 2018 #6 Share Posted September 10, 2018 I don't know how long it takes YOU to suck up a drink...doesn't take me long enough for a paper straw to get "soggy"! That's all we used to have, and we're still here!
BlueLineGal Posted September 11, 2018 #7 Share Posted September 11, 2018 Packed plastic straws for our trip on the Pearl and never used them. I drank BBC's and others and I never drink anything without a straw and I never missed it at all.
