Shore>Mom Posted September 23, 2018 #1 Share Posted September 23, 2018 Flying into FLL. POM departure. Want to spend the day before relaxing and riding the water taxi around FL. Am I nuts? Water taxi worth it?
DaveOKC Posted September 23, 2018 #2 Share Posted September 23, 2018 Flying into FLL. POM departure. Want to spend the day before relaxing and riding the water taxi around FL. Am I nuts? Water taxi worth it? Not a bad idea, if you get in FL early enough. Check out the water taxi schedule before you decide. It is worth the money IMO. BNBR Posted September 23, 2018 #4 Share Posted September 23, 2018 Why would it be crazy? It's a relatively short drive from Fort Lauderdale to PortMiami. Water Taxi is fun. Plan to get off at a stop or two and explore a little bit.
JohninDC Posted September 23, 2018 #5 Share Posted September 23, 2018 We've stayed in FLL and then used shared shuttles to get to POM the morning of the cruise -- easy! :D Uber/Lyft is also an option between FLL area hotels and POM
77sue Posted September 24, 2018 #6 Share Posted September 24, 2018 We always stay in fll, cruise out of Miami. Usually use sas for shuttle.
SandyMIA Posted September 25, 2018 #7 Share Posted September 25, 2018 Enjoy your water taxi ride. It is a great idea to stay in Fort Lauderdale rather than in Miami. Hollywood is also a very good option as it is connected to the water taxi.
gymbomb Posted September 25, 2018 #8 Share Posted September 25, 2018 I've stayed in Ft Lauderdale before cruising from Miami a couple of times. Took SAS once when it was just 2 of us, hired a driver from a limo company when we had 5 people including a baby. Both worked well.
nhraformula00 Posted September 26, 2018 #9 Share Posted September 26, 2018 Hilton Marina is a great hotel. Plan on using water taxi all day. I would do the Hollywood route first, southern route. It takes 1 hour to get to Hollywood from Hilton Marina, and an hour to get back. You change boats at stop number 4 which is Hilton Marina. When you come back from Hollywood the northern route takes 2 hours from stop number 4 to make a complete loop all the way around and back. You can get on or off at any stop and its about 40-45 min for another boat to come by. You do not need to buy tickets in advance. You can purchase them once you get on any boat with credit card. Yellow, the river route. The Fort Lauderdale route will be good as well and have more yachts, but the river is more intimate.
spidybabe Posted September 29, 2018 #13 Share Posted September 29, 2018 We always fly into FLL, stay overnight and shuttle (SAS) to the port in the AM. We enjoyed Holiday inn express 17th Street. Great location, plenty in the area close to sun trolley, water taxi, free breakfast Safe sailing Sent from my SM-N950U using Forums mobile app
bigbeergut Posted September 30, 2018 #14 Share Posted September 30, 2018 These are all great suggestions for staying in Fort Lauderdale. The Water Taxi is an interesting way to spend some time in Fort Lauderdale, but I'm not sure I would plan my trip around the Water Taxi. However if my cruise was leaving from Miami, I would probably stay in Downtown Miami. For me there always something very nice about looking out the window in the morning (or going outside the hotel) and seeing your ship. Staying by the port just eliminates one more thing that I don't have to think about.
parrotfeathers Posted October 1, 2018 #15 Share Posted October 1, 2018 From my city, flying into FLL didn't save enough money to warrant it. I just fly into Miami and have it done. For me, it's much easier on the nerves too. I wake up and know I am already there.
