2 days, or maybe 10 days. SPB is fantastic. There is so much to see, you will not get it all done in 1 day (or 2). We used  Anastasia's Travel for our time there, and they were amazing, because there is so much to do. Our guide was able to plan our trip so we could make the most of our time, and fit in as much as humanly possible in our 2 days there. We are planning another trip soon to see what we missed!

2 days in St. Pete.  Look at TJ Travel or SPB tours and see the difference between the one day and 2 day tours to give you an idea of what you would be missing.  There are things that you can do at night if you do 2 days (ballet, folk dance, etc).

I didn't care for Berlin at all.

2 days!!!!!  A vote for TJ travel.  Plus, work with TJ travel, for an evening outing.  We paid for a tour guild that took us to dinner of our choice, but she recommended a few places.  After dinner, a walk in the city, that was not structured, but based on our choices.  Ended the evening with a Vodka tasting and more food.  I was surprised of how many people went back to the ship, and did not enjoy some of the nightlife.

2 days in St. Petersburg is almost not enough - we used SPB for touring in most of the Baltic countries, loved their smaller groups.  Guide was fantastic, we actually got an American who ended up going to school in Germany and married a German lady, so he did Berlin for us was fantastic.  Our Russia lady guide was also fantastic.

We did 2 days and took the first day there and flew to Moscow using a ship excursion - what an amazing trip. The second day we hired a private tour guide through the ships excursions and was able to see everything we wanted to see including the museums (guide got us fast passes through the entrances of every place we went). I would do it again in a heart beat!!

Moscow is impressive city, but imho St Petersburg has so much more to offer..

Our ship  spent 2 days in St. Petersburg on our first Baltic cruise in 2005, and 3 days on our Ultimate Scandinavia-Russia cruise in 2014. On the latter, we toured St. Petersburg on days 1 and 3, and did a tour to Moscow by high-speed train on day 2. All were arranged through Alla Tours.

This is what we did. Moscow was amazing and we enjoyed it far more than St Petersburg. We enjoyed Catherine's Palace more than the Hermitage. If the op has the option to do one day in Moscow and one day in St Petersburg, go with that choice.
