Here are bridge webcam images for the Cunard fleet. This latest version of the "Cunard Webcams" page has been modified to support the updates that were made to the Cruise Critic Community Boards in October 2018.

For reference, here are direct links to the webcam images themselves.

QV: https://www.cunard.com/webcams/qv1.jpg
QE: https://www.cunard.com/webcams/qel.jpg

Please note, as with previous versions of this page, your browser may serve up stale copies of these images stored in its internal cache from previous visits to this page. You may need to perform a hard refresh of this page to see the latest versions of these images from the Cunard website. For example, in most windows browsers, a hard refresh is accomplished via the ctrl-f5 key combination. When viewing this page on a phone, it can get a bit more complicated, involving going through your browser settings to clear cached images. But given these limitations, I hope some of you will continue to find this page useful.

Hattie,

Having problems viewing.

Could the page be recreated to avoid difficulties.

Otherwise will view on other websites the images are available.

Thank you...

As the author of this page, I'll jump in here.

I have also been having problems recently viewing these Cunard bridge webcam images in Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. Interestingly, I'm not having any problem viewing the images in Internet Explorer.

I think the problem is related to the new Cunard website that has been brought on line recently (or more specifically the cookies implemented by the new website). The workaround I have found is to delete cookies and site data within those browsers. Then the bridge webcam images appear for me within this post once again.

Unfortunately, that workaround is a nuisance and only lasts until some point after you once again visit the new Cunard website which recreates the cookies and site data for that site within your browser.

By the way, once the bridge webcam images stop working here (in Chrome and Firefox), they also stop working for me on all other sites that use these same standard "cunard.com" URL's to access the Cunard bridge webcam images. I have found a few other sites that show different versions of the bridge webcam images, but I'm not convinced those images are necessarily the current webcam images. Maybe I'll do some more investigating to see if I can find other current versions of the Cunard webcam images that can be used reliably here.

Dear bluemarble,

As always, thank you for your response.

Still problems viewing so I did go to the other sites that I have no problems with any browser with full screen imagine.

But again, thank you...

OK, this is going to get rather techie. By trial and error, I've determined that the webcam images in this sticky (which reside on "www.cunard.com") become inaccessible in Google Chrome on my desktop PC after the following cookie is created by a visit to the new Cunard website.

Name: ASCookie

Content: AEMOrigin

Domain: www.cunard.com

I have no idea why this particular cookie is interferring with retrieving the webcam images, but I've found that deleting just this one cookie restores the functionality of this sticky from within Chrome. Also, the specific content of "AEMOrigin" for this cookie seems to be relevant. On a couple occassions while testing on the new Cunard UK website, this cookie happened to be created with a content of "AOrigin". In those cases, this sticky continued to operate correctly.

Go figure.

They look OK on my phone

Are you using an Android phone with Chrome for your browser and have you visited the new Cunard website in Chrome on your phone? That's the combination that messes things up for me anyway. Results may be different in the UK though, depending on how that cookie named "ASCookie" is created for you in Chrome. Unfortunately, I don't know how to look at specific cookie settings in Chrome on a phone rather than a desktop PC.

After visiting the new Cunard website, I can still see the webcam images here for a while, but once I clear "Cached images and files" in Chrome to simulate a hard refresh and ensure that I see the latest webcam images, here is what I start seeing instead. I think the same thing happens if I don't specifically clear the cached images but wait long enough for Chrome to consider the images stale and it tries to retrieve the latest images on its own.

And by the way, at this point if I click on one of the direct links in the sticky to attempt to bring up one of the images that way, I get this error message.

Resource at '/webcams/qm2.jpg' not found: No resource found

Cannot serve request to /webcams/qm2.jpg on this server

Apache Sling

But then, if I clear "Cookies and site data" in Chrome, I'm back to the normal functionality.

Edit to add: I'm not seeing this issue when accessing the boards on my phone via Tapatalk instead of Chrome.

Has anyone been able to see the Cunard bridge webcam images in this sticky lately (after making sure you are not seeing stale images from a few days ago)?

It looks to me like the Cunard webcam images may have been removed recently from the “www.cunard.com/webcams” location used in this sticky, perhaps as part of the new Cunard website redesign. At least I have not been able to see the images here on any platform for the last few days.

Perhaps this is just a temporary glitch as has happened before. But to get a bit techie once again, there are at least two other places where the Cunard bridge webcam images reside that other webcam sites are using to access them successfully.

One place is at "images.cunard.com". Unfortunately, those images can only be accessed via the "http" protocol, not the "https" protocol. The Invision Community software now used by Cruise Critic stores "http" images within its image proxy, making them static images that can't be refreshed. In order to have a dynamic link to an image within a post here that can be refreshed, that image's URL must use the "https" protocol.

Another place where the webcam images can be found is at "cdn.images.cunard.com". Those images are accessed via the "https" protocol. Unfortunately, in order to get the latest versions of the webcam images stored there, it is necessary to append the parameter "?timestamp" to the end of the image URLs (where "timestamp" is the current time as returned by the javascript "getTime()" method). If there is a way to create a link here within a Cruise Critic post that can dynamically supply that "?timestamp" parameter to the end of the webcam image URLs each time they are accessed, I'm not aware of how to do it.

Therefore, I am reluctantly coming to the conclusion that after many years and many different versions supported by several individuals, this Cunard bridge webcam sticky may have finally hit the end of the road in terms of trying to show the webcam images directly from their original source on a Cunard site. Of course, if anyone has any other ideas on how to get this sticky working again, I'd be very glad to hear them.

John,

Can you just use the URLs you described above,  using for example http://images.cunard.com/webcams/qm2.jpg

I re-read your post

Apparently when you embed an image with an http url, the cruise critic software reads it and stores it locally.

That's correct, Vince. Thanks for the suggestion, but I think you will find the images you posted will never change even if you do a hard refresh or clear your browser's image cache because they use the "http" protocol rather than the "https" protocol. As a result, the Invision Community software makes its own copies of the images and stores them in its image proxy. I think you will find if you right-click on the QM2 webcam image in your previous post and check its location, it has been changed from what you originally entered as

to

"https://boards.cruisecritic.com/applications/core/interface/imageproxy/imageproxy.php?img=http://images.cunard.com/webcams/qm2.jpg&key=8fe1f7e71677cbc0bf1485ac9569d2ac879b274a9a4a3346b2d0e2871535aad4".

In my experience, that makes it a static image stored on "boards.cruisecritic.com", rather than a dynamic link to the original image on "images.cunard.com" that can be refreshed and updated. In most cases with Cruise Critic posts, that behavior is a good thing. That way the image will remain a part of the post even if the original image from another website is removed from that site. However, that behavior defeats what we are trying to accomplish here.

But let's see if I am wrong about that and the images in your post can be refreshed to show later versions of the webcam images tomorrow.

To expand on what I mentioned earlier about the webcam images also residing on "cdn.images.com", here is the URL for Queen Victoria's webcam image there.

But that URL does not provide the current image from QV's webcam. The image from that URL looks like this (changed to a static image for the purpose of this post).

image.png.7bdca334c2918266c143878cbefeb2aa.png

As I mentioned earlier, the current QV webcam image is obtained by appending a "?timestamp" parameter to that URL.

For example, I obtained the image from QV's webcam at 3:05pm my time (in US Central timezone) using this URL.

Here is the QV webcam image from that URL (again changed to a static image to post here).

image.png.5afabd498e85c5f677b6cae80fa2045f.png

Then, 10 minutes later at 3:15pm my time, this became the URL to the current QV webcam image.

Here is the QV webcam image from that later URL (again changed to a static image to post here).

image.png.99c67cb5e0e8545de4122add9c909ba7.png

But I don't see any way to get this to work within a post here on Cruise Critic (to adjust the image URL dynamically to supply the current timestamp). Naturally other sites that display the webcam images are able to run code that supplies the current timestamp parameter at the end of the URLs they construct.

Yeah, I'm not sure these new webcam images from the Cunard website are quite ready for prime time yet. Occasionally I'm seeing images that look like they are reasonably accurate and seem to be updating every few minutes (when doing hard refreshes in the browser). But then they seem to revert to older images, such as showing night images while it is daytime at the ship's location, or switching back to an image of the ship in port long after it has departed.
