First Unread Question Again

I noticed if I select a thread, open, read and then close it, the font turns from bold to not bold. Note, I would like it the other way around and would also like to get the red font back. But now to the question. I also noticed that the first unread button to the left disappears once the thread is opened and then closed. Anyone have any information on how to find the first unread?

I have found that if you have read all the post on a thread the first unread button will disappear.  Once someone adds a post the button will reappear for you to use.  The first unread button is only available for threads that there are any posts that you have not read.

Once you've opened the thread, there will no longer be any unread posts in it. I believe that this has not changed with the new software.
