Monk86 Posted January 12, 2019 #1 Share Posted January 12, 2019 Whats the general odds of security finding and taking alcohol off passengers when they board the ship if there is some in their bags? Im not looking for judgements etc just an answer to the question. Thank you.
Zephyr173 Posted January 12, 2019 #2 Share Posted January 12, 2019 I once followed a person back to ship, who had vodka in a plastic commercial bottle of water. The security person shook the bottle and opined that water does not bubble the same way as vodka. So the person saw the bottle confiscated. I have told this on another thread, and another fellow CC member replied that she had no problem getting wine on board. My experience is consistent with the terms of the contract with MSC, that is no personal alcohol to be brought on board. Any, including that which you purchase on the ship, are to be held by the ship and returned to you the evening before you disembark.
sptrout Posted January 12, 2019 #3 Share Posted January 12, 2019 I think that there is a good chance that they will spot it and keep for the crew's party that night. Security seemed to check things closely when we were on the Seaside in December.

Rare Beamafar Posted January 12, 2019 #5 Share Posted January 12, 2019 I bought a bottle of liqueur when we were in Naples and had no problem bringing it onboard. If it is confiscated, you'll be given a receipt and it will be returned to you at disembarkation. Rare electro Posted January 13, 2019 #6 Share Posted January 13, 2019 I have brought wine on board from at least 1 port on all 5 of my MSC cruises and never had an issue. Note: all my sailing have been in Europe so I don't know if they are stricter sailing out of the US.
kiminey65 Posted January 13, 2019 #7 Share Posted January 13, 2019 Be aware that if you are bringing alcohol in via a rum runner or some other opened bottle, if it is confiscated it will be dumped out. If it gets caught in its original, unopened bottle they will tag it for you to bring home with you. Obviously if it gets through then you can do with it as you wish. Rare Captain-John Posted January 13, 2019 #8 Share Posted January 13, 2019 Never had a problem with rum runners in the past, however, with the ubiquitous nature of drinks packages now haven't had to use them for years. This applies to all lines.
