Merion_Mom Posted January 19, 2006 #1 Share Posted January 19, 2006 I'm going to be on the Sovereign again (in just 4 days!!!). I want to seek out and talk to my "old" cabin steward from our cruise last month, and take her a gift. Suggestions?
wrp96 Posted January 19, 2006 #2 Share Posted January 19, 2006 No fair, Carol. You just got off her and you're already going back! I'm jealous. No suggestions for gifts but have a great time.
terri23 Posted January 19, 2006 #3 Share Posted January 19, 2006 How about some chocolates (not mints, LOL!). She probably doesn't need stuff to clutter her small living space, and who doesn't like Godiva??? :D
PhoenixCruiser Posted January 19, 2006 #4 Share Posted January 19, 2006 How about a pedicure or manicure kit or some lotion? Or a gift card for a store you know she'll be able to visit soon? Terri, I'm allergic to chocolate, so no godiva for me :D Carol, I hope you have a wonderful time!! ###
Estella Posted January 19, 2006 #5 Share Posted January 19, 2006 A phone card is always nice. Being from Pennsylvania, why not something from Herseys.
sf2 Posted January 19, 2006 #6 Share Posted January 19, 2006 But being that the ship is based out of Canaveral . . . how about a gift card that can be spent at some of the stores that the crew go to? The crew shuttle goes to Wal-mart and Merritt Square Mall. I know most people would say phone cards, but the ship sells the crew phone cards at fairly good rates/minute and there is a serious phone card 'mafia' on every cruise ship out there . . . ladylawyer Posted January 19, 2006 #7 Share Posted January 19, 2006 Carol, Travelgrrl had some great suggestions: Phone cards; manicure/travel set; and gift bags with battery operated candles, candy, chapstick, toiletries, playing cards, things like that. She said that "the reaction has been out of sight." PS: Have fun w/ you-know-who. We're all looking forward to your live posts! :D ~ Lorna

Ok, I won't/can't get Walmart gift cards. What else is nearby (in the Merritt Sq Mall or elsewhere) where crew members are likely to go? I had thought of the phone cards, too, but also decided that they do better with this on their own. Besides, she's from the Bahamas, and that's where the ship stops! I'm going to look into Hershey chocolate - GREAT idea, Estella. Maybe I could fit one of those Ben re-enactors into my bag.............They're ALL OVER the place this week, being Ben's 300th birthday. Thanks for all the good wishes. No fair, Carol. You just got off her and you're already going back! I'm jealous. No suggestions for gifts but have a great time. Now, Wrona, you KNOW that I am NOT going on this for the "cruise." ;) If he were in Vegas next week, I'd be flying to Vegas. And Lorna, I WILL post. I promise. I may even get Steve to add a few words of wisdom............ (just for those who don't believe that this is all for real ?!?!?!??!) A A A A A A A G G G G G G H H H H H H H ! ! ! ! ! ! ! ! How will I last through the next three and a half days????? 84 hours from right now, I'll be airborne, heading to MCO!!!

Merion_Mom Posted January 20, 2006 Author #14 Share Posted January 20, 2006 How about a nice note card with some cash. No, I really don't think that that's appropriate. She is NOT my cabin steward. I tipped her lavishly when she was. I just want a little "thinking of you" kind of recognition.
Coralc Posted January 20, 2006 #15 Share Posted January 20, 2006 OMG. How did I miss all this? MM is returning for a cruise, because of someone she "met" on a cruise!!! I am on these boards every day. How do I miss interesting and important "stuff" like that?:D :D :D
Tommy's Mommy Posted January 20, 2006 #16 Share Posted January 20, 2006 Dear Carol, I have not been able to get on our MOS WGIG crew board since New Year's. The one time I was on I did pick up about you know who. I have a few days off next week and I have a LOT of catching up to do. It's great! Have a gpod time. Maybe you should inquire about a frequent companion coupon booklet. Do you need a chaperone? I'm very good at that. Also, I'm local and could escort you to and from the airport. You might need someone to make sure you get on the plane home.
cruise3122 Posted January 20, 2006 #17 Share Posted January 20, 2006 Merion Mom, How about some recent magazines, for example People or OK. We left ours with our room steward on our last cruise and they absolutely loved it. Have a great time!!

Here's a little known fact: crew/staff (not sure how the definition works) can take someone for FREE in their crew cabin ANY TIME THEY WANT, with 30 days advance notice. We didn't have 30 days to arrange this, and they wouldn't bend the rules. It's only 20 days between. :) So, if this all works out..........I'll be cruisin' without payin'!
