Northcliffe12 Posted April 14, 2019 #1 Share Posted April 14, 2019 Is there anyone on board the Veendam now she is out of dry dock who can advise what work was done? I am on her for a Mediterranean cruise in June and just hoping they haven’t made and significant changes to the layout. If anyone has a photo of a daily schedule from the first post dry dock cruise that would be wonderfully helpful too.
jkrislc Posted April 14, 2019 #2 Share Posted April 14, 2019 I'm curious, too, as I'll be aboard the Veendam in July. However, given that the drydock was so short, I doubt anything was done with regards to her layout. There simply wasn't enough time for that. Hopefully, though, they were able to freshen her up with some new softgoods and fixed the elevator situation.
Rare Copper10-8 Posted April 14, 2019 #3 Share Posted April 14, 2019 She was scheduled for routine/regular dry-dock work, as well as getting some failing public elevator cabs replaced

She looked amazing!! Her new paint job made her look like a new ship. Also, I noticed some kind of class enclosed structure on the back of the ship? It was hard to make it out from the angle I saw her. Perhaps this has been there for a while?

It's exterior glass partition got green painted leaves on it Edited April 15, 2019 by Copper10-

I was on her in January - great ship and crew - except for the 3 elevators not working (2 forward section and 1 in stern section).

I hope someone can take an exterior shot of her soon so I can confirm what I was looking at! :)

If anyone has a photo of a daily schedule from the first post dry dock cruise that would be wonderfully helpful too. I’m onboard now. What I’ve seen so far ...All new carpet in public areas. Nice light colours. New chairs at the desks in cabins and crows nest. Looks like one of the aft elevators may not be complete as there is wood framing around it. Doors are very slow opening and closing. Still lots of contractors onboard but I’m thinking they are working behind the scenes. There are a few plumbing issues we are hearing about like leaks and no hot water in a few showers. The exploration cafe is all refurbished and looks great. The self serve laundry rooms have disappeared. Jim Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Northcliffe12 Posted April 15, 2019 Author #12 Share Posted April 15, 2019 Thank you so much for the photos. Do they still have the ocean bar musicians (Neptune trio I think they are called) performing sets each night and the band in crows nest?

Northcliffe12 Posted April 16, 2019 Author #17 Share Posted April 16, 2019 Thanks so much for all the information. My husband and I enjoy dancing and I know HAL has progressively removed ocean bar entertainment (well suitable for dance anyway) and crows nest has also been changed on their new ships. I booked Veendam as they still had the traditional layout and gambled on this remaining after dry dock. So really pleased to hear ocean bar is intact with pianist and/or Neptune trio each night! Really appreciate your help.

colonialinnkeeper Posted April 16, 2019 #21 Share Posted April 16, 2019 So happy to know that the Ocean Bar has not been messed up/changed and that the trio still plays. Hope that HAL doesn't change this as it is a big draw for us as we enjoy dancing in the evenings. Have been on board three or four times with Harvey leading one of the trios. Great music/great interaction with audience. They filled the bar each time they played. It is a real plus.
