If they are sealed packages of cookies crackers candy chocolates etc then it is ok.

Don't try regular food as you could be fined.

No, never, unless it is sealed. But don't even think about fruits or sandwiches, even cookies. There are some security agents from the port that check your bags before you get into the port. Some of them even have dogs. This was the case in Cozumel.
