Bsanr Posted May 8, 2019 #1 Share Posted May 8, 2019 My husband and I are planning a South America Cruise and we are trying to decide between Princess and Holland America. We have many Princess Cruises under our belly but have never cruised Holland. The itineraries are very similar but it seems that Holland has better scenic cruise days- Glacier Alley, Canal Sarmiento and the Chilean Fjords. Can anyone tell me if Princess Cruises by these sites also or is it a Holland thing? Any advice/opinions welcome!!
PurpleTraveller Posted May 8, 2019 #2 Share Posted May 8, 2019 On my Emerald Princess cruise in March 2018 from Buenos Aires to San Antonio we cruised Glacier Alley after leaving Ushuaia and also went to the Amalia Glacier. The sailing was very scenic and thoroughly enjoyable.
thinfool Posted May 9, 2019 #3 Share Posted May 9, 2019 The sailings are very similar but Princess ships are larger than HAL (Zaandam). This means that, in a couple of ports, you will tender on Princess whereas HAL will tie up at a dock. If I were going again I would definitely sail on HAL...the food is way better than Princess (cutbacks). Our sailing around Cape Horn was embarassingly calm...we were all prepped for storm swells and rolling and pitching. Nope...felt like a farm pond.

Best private tour of the trip!! hightower14 - May I ask - which of the five different Puerto Montt tours offered by chileshoretours did you take? Was there any issue getting back to the ship in time? Anything else as to why you thought it was the best private tour of the trip? Thanks so much for any insight! We are going Valparaiso to Buenos Aires this December.
