Alaska cruise /and meals.

Looking at 3 nights on ship and 9 on land. Some days mention lunch included for the land portion during an included tour.  What about the rest of the meals? It's a Yukon Double Denali with flights to Seattle included if that matters.

On the land portion, unless it says "included" you're on your own for that meal.

We were on a14-day Alaska-Yukon-cruise triple Denali adventure a couple of years ago, and IIRC, the package included only two meals (a box of snacks on the Tundra Wilderness tour in Denali and a soup and salad lunch on the day we traveled from Dawson to Whitehorse). Check the itinerary in your trip docs, it should show what's included. Happy travels.

You can check with HAL or your travel agent - Holland America does sell a meal plan for the land portion of most cruisetours.  They could tell you specific costs/inclusions for your itinerary. 

 

Typically they include full breakfast and dinner daily, but not lunch.  Breakfast typically is a main breakfast item off the menu or full hot buffet and a choice of one hot/cold non-alcoholic beverage.  Dinner typically is a three course - appetizer (or soup or salad), main course and dessert, with one hot/cold non-alcoholic beverage.  They include a standard tax & gratuity for the server on the included items.  Any additional items/beverages are at menu pricing and standard plus tax/gratuity. 

 

Some like these meal plans as it helps them to not worry where they will eat or what costs will be.  Some dislike them as they are limited in where they can eat by the specific venues included (usually within the hotels/lodges). 

 

They may or may not be a good value for you depending on your dining habits.

 We also did an Alaska/Yukon tour in 2018. We did not choose to purchase the meal plan because it was limited to meals in the hotels/lodge you were staying in. We preferred choosing where we wanted to eat. On the land portion our tour guide, Patrick, always gave us suggestions of places to eat and they were always spot on. I will say that in Canada and the Yukon portions were pretty large and my husband and I were frequently able to split a meal between us. Hope you have a great time.

We cruised the inner passage last year with double Denali- no guide. We were very happy that we purchased the meal plan! Not having to search for a place to eat when tired and hungry plus transportation to an eatery was well worth it for us. Also, meal prices, while not surprising, would have found us ordering by price instead of meal desire and additionally adding gratuities. The 3 course meal was so filling we could have easily purchased just one meal package, shared meals and left additional gratuity for the server. As mentioned above, it is all about personal preference/choice. One other bit of information we were told last year, there are a limited number of meal packages sold. It was apparent from our table mates, the meal package is not well known. Denali park bus tour was the highlight of our trip - grizzly and cubs passing through the rest area found some folks scurrying to the toilets and others back to the bus. Have a great adventure!

To clarify, only trips going into the Yukon have a Journey Host, who will be with the group all day every day.

Oops, the Journey Host only works on land, not on the ship.
