Has anyone used Beyond Skagway tour company?  If so what did you think about them?  Are there any others that people have used that they have enjoyed?  We want to do the train one way and a van one way.  We also want to stop and do the dog cart.  Does anyone recommend any other stops as well?

Look at Chilkoot tours: https://chilkootcharters.com

Beyond Skagway seems to be a booking company. I would book direct with a company such as Chilkoot.

Beyond Skagway is a booking company that handles many excursions. If you want to do the Dog cart you need to make sure your excursion goes to "Caribou Crossing" most bus tours go there. They have a lot of puppies and a Dog cart ride there.

We did a private tour with Beyond Skagway a few weeks ago and they were fabulous. They offer customized tours by van tailored to your group’s preferences.  We did a round trip van tour but they will also pick up / drop off at the train if you want to take the train one way. Our multigenerational group all had an amazing time!  Our tour guide was very flexible and willing to adjust the itinerary on the fly based on the preferences of the group.

Edited to add that all our our interactions were direct with Beyond Skagway (they are not a booking company).  Their customer service was excellent and our tour guide was amazing.

Thank you for the clarification - due to their website being quite diverse, it did look like a booking company. There are so many out there, it is frustrating.

We have a private tour booked with Beyond Skagway in July where they will drive us up and then we will take the train back. They have booked the train for us, as well as, a stop at a Dog Mushing Camp, so maybe it does make them seem like a booking company when you look at their website.

AFJB - glad to hear you guys had a great tour!  We can't wait for ours!

My recommendation is to rent a car and drive into the Yukon Territory.  In the video below, and retired Alaskan Tour Guide and guest lecturer for some of the ships talks about all the ports, but he starts with Skagway and talks about the train and the drive.

Hi, just back from our Solstice cruise. Based on TripAdvisor reviews, we had booked a tour with Beyond Skagway. So happy we did so. It was one of the highlights of our trip. This was a our third trip to Skagway, and we had never really ventured outside of the town.  It was nice to have a guide who could pay attention to the road while we took in the sights. Plus, it was fascinating to talk to Natasha, our guide, about what it is like to live in Skayway, Alaska. She was a great guide and we really enjoyed the trip.  We did a four-hour trip, stopping at the suspension bridge. I have read mixed reviews about it, but we loved it. It was a great little place to take in the beautiful scenery, grab a snack and relax.   We have teenage boys, and they were happy to get out of the van and climb around at the various scenic stops.

We just got back from our Alaskan Adventure and happy to report that Beyond Skagway Tours lives up to all the great reviews they have received. We had debated renting a car and driving all the way up to Emeral Lake and back, but so glad we changed our minds. If one of us had been driving, they would have never enjoyed the view. So we took the guided to Emeral Lake and then they brought us back down to return on the train. Then meet us at the station to get us back to our ship.

Our guide, Emily, was also a fountain of knowledge about the area and history. It was like taking a drive with an old friend and not a boring tour guide that memorized a script!  I would highly recommend this company.
