Ine Posted June 5, 2019 #2 Share Posted June 5, 2019 Like in any city, there are a lot of restaurants. Famous are the Indonesian restaurants serving rijsttafel. Our favorites are: Sama Sebo near trhe museums, Indrapura at Rembrandtsplein, Temo Doeloe in Utrechtsestraat. BarbinMich Posted June 15, 2019 #3 Share Posted June 15, 2019 The first time we were in Amsterdam, we had a lovely lunch at a small place near the bourse. I ordered the mustard soup not sure what to expect, but it was delicious! A cream soup to which dry mustard had been added for flavor.
prudence passenger Posted June 18, 2019 #4 Share Posted June 18, 2019 Lots of fabulous choices in Amsterdam, we also love the Indonesian restaurants, and we have been to Restaurant Blauw for the rijsttafel, or rice table, on two different trips and it is awesome. For seafood, we went to John Dory and it was amazing, inside a 17th century warehouse, or the Seafood Bar, more than one location now. For something a little different, we went to De Kas, which is inside a conservatory, and you can see the outdoor gardens which grow much of what is used. Also Restaurant Vinkeles in the Dylan Amsterdam, very lovely and special; I think we went to Izakaya for sushi, and must try herring at a street stand, we were so lucky to be there for nieuw herring. Have a great trip, wish we were going back soon.

Joanandjoe Posted June 18, 2019 #6 Share Posted June 18, 2019 This thread certainly heightens our anticipation of the food in Amsterdam when we're there from 11 to 14, August. We love Indonesian food, and probably had it 5 times on our 3 previous trips to Amsterdam. Now all we need to decide is which of our two booked hotels to choose: Banks Mansion or Hotel JL # 76. Both sound great, and both are near the museums and near one of the top Indonesian restaurants.
Joanandjoe Posted August 13, 2019 #7 Share Posted August 13, 2019 Indrapura restaurant Thanks, Ine, for the recommendation of Indrapura. We ate there last night, and the rijstaffel was amazingly good, and only a short walk from our hotel. To get there, we almost had to fight our way through the huge crowds on Rembrandt Square posing with the statues of The Night Watch; but that was fun. too. Best of all, we are early eaters, and people who have left their tables by 8 pm get 25% off all orders of rice tables. We ordered the 36 Euro (27 with the discount) Nusantara rice table, and it was delicious and more than we could eat. The crab cake with peanut sauce appetizer was out of this world! Most people around us went for the 1/2 lobster table (Indrapura rice table, 46.25 Euros before discount), but it would have been too much food for us. Just a wonderful meal next to an interesting square, and under 500 meters from our hotel (Banks Mansion).
barb in ga Posted August 28, 2019 #8 Share Posted August 28, 2019 We'll be in Amsterdam next May for 3 days prior to a Baltic Cruise, so I'm starting to read these related posts. We once spent part of a day in Amsterdam during a 12 hour layover on the way to Paris; just a little taste left us wanting more. I'm interested in your experience at Banks Mansion: location, price, comfort? Thanks for your input. Barb
