Tipping in Vancouver with USD

We are only going to be in Vancouver for one night (from US) and I am not planning to get any Canadian dollars.  If we want to tip a few people (like the hotel shuttle driver and the luggage folks at the port), can we use USD?  I know if someone handed me a Canadian dollar, I wouldn't know what to do with it.

As long as you don't ask for change to offset the exchange rate (!) anyone working in local tourism who expects tips will happily take USD - worst case they can swap it for more civilized and prettier money at their own bank and the extra value will offset any loss in the exchange process 😉

Didn't you just answer your own question?

Whenever I visit the USA, I always tip people with Chinese RenMinBi.

They love it.
