Booking With DCL

We have never cruised with Disney.  Are the deposits refundable or non-refundable?  What are the deposit amounts?   When is final payment due?  If the price goes down before final payment, can the booking be adjusted to the lower price?  If purchasing DCL's insurance, is there a pre-existing clause?

Thanks.

Deposits are refundable up until final payment date.  EXCEPT for deposits on Concierge rooms.  Those are non-refundable.

Typical deposit amount is 20% of cruise fare.  Occasionally DCL will offer reduced deposits (usually 10%).

Final payment is 90 days out for all sailings of 1 - 5 nights and Concierge rooms and suites.  120 days out for all other sailings (excluding Concierge rooms and suites).

Generally, if you want to re-fare a reservation, it requires a cancellation and then rebooking.  But not always.  You have to contact DCL to see what they will do for you.

Don't know about the insurance, we always by third party insurance, as it generally less expensive and covers more.

I totally agree with the above response.  The ONLY advantage to buying insurance thru DCL is that if the insurance company refuses to pay for some reason, a portion of the fare will be credited to the original booked cruiser for use on a future cruise (there is fine print on this!).  I would strongly recommend a TA who truly specializes on DCL (not one who has a Disney sign in their window because they did the on line training!)  Most of these give an on board credit or other "gift" as a "thanks for booking with us," and will give you great pointers about selecting cruises, booking, choosing insurance, etc.

The one time that insurance thru DCL may be less costly than private is when there are elderly people involved.  Most private insurances consider age as one of the pricing determinants....but typically give a "complimentary" child's policy with purchase of a parent or grandparent policy."  DCL considers only the cost of the cruise in figuring the cost of the insurance.
