MUST DO's

You should go to your ship’s excursion list to see what interests you.  There are just too many options and people might think one is the best in the world when you may not be interested at all. If you narrow it down a bit  and let people know what you’re interested in they then can respond without giving  you suggestions that you wouldn’t want to do.

After narrowing things down you can also use the forum search function to go directly to posts discussing what you’d like to see.  Also, the “Trip Reports” at the top of the page answer many frequently asked questions.

I second the advice from Glaciers.   There are no short cuts .... you need to do the research and figure out what sights and activities work best for YOU.

In addition to reading Trip Reports and reviewing your ships excursion list,  look thru the town web sites.  Every town has a web site to promote tourism in their town and support local vendors; and most include a Visitor Guide to download with maps, vendors, itinerary suggestions, etc.

Which ports are you visiting?

We just did a float plane excursion in Ketchikan with Island Wings, I would highly recommend.

Juneau is usually whale watching or Mendenhall Glacier, we did them on two separate trips to Alaska, but they do offer them together if you think this is your only visit to Alaska.... your time at the glacier maybe limited.

In Haines or Skagway, they offer a tour that goes to Davidson Glacier, second favorite excursion in Alaska.  I know most take a train tour in Skagway, sitting for hours on a train didn’t interest us (especially because we did this Anchorage to Denali), but if you’re less active you may enjoy it.  It all depends your interests, activity level and $$$!
